Painless Grammar
I got this really great book the other day at Costco. Its called Painless Grammar by Rebecca Elliott and published by Barrons. It retails for $8.99 but I paid $5.59 at Costco.
The cover says: An enjoyable, completely painless examination of parts of speech, sentence construction, punctuation. The Introduction says, in part, As I edited the students papers, I began to wonder, is it possible to teach kids to love to write – and to love to write correctly – without boring them to death? I believe it is, and thats the other reason I wrote Painless Grammar.
Just today I had a question on when to use then or than. I turned to the chapter Wacky Words We Love to Misuse and found my answer.
There is a chapter called Editing-The Top Goofs in Students Writing and another one on Writing E-mails.
At the end of each chapter there are Brain Ticklers where they give sentences that have mistakes and you correct them.
It says it's for middle school and high school students. I was quite impressed with how simple it was to understand the different concepts and I thought the price was excellent. This books looks like it will be a handy tool for our family.
