This Terms Memory Work
Monday through Thursday my kids have memory work. I like to do it first thing in the morning after we sing our hymn. You know how it is – as the day goes on you can get going in so many directions that it can be too easy to skip things we may consider unnecessary. I wrote about the method we use here. Following, I have listed the poems, Scriptures, etc., that my children have memorized this term. Seth The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson Columbus by Joaquin Miller I John 4:1-21 Story with a Moral James 3:1-18, 4:1-17 Psalm 23:1-6 Old and New Testament A Psalm of Life by…

Thoughts on Finishing Our First Term
We’ve finished our first term! (3 children out of 4). Most of our distractions have come in the form of company, but company is a fact of life around here. This is our first year to use Ambleside Online and my kids are truly learning to be more accountable. In the past we did a lot of things together. This year everyone is working pretty much independently. Thanks to Lindafay and her 12 week checklist, they can see what they need to do everyday for 12 weeks. I did have a problem earlier on with a couple of my boys dawdling. One Both of them are still needing improvement in this area but one is starting to apply himself…

Spoiling Me Royally
We got home from our camping trip on Monday night. On the plus side, there was no rain to speak of but unfortunately, the men did not bag any javelina AND my little girl Audrey was sick almost the entire time. She actually only started feeling back to her normal self the day we broke camp. Thursday was my birthday and oh, what a glorious day I had. I had told my husband on Wednesday that I wished we could go somewhere so that I could read to him. (Just this week I received in the mail Nourishing Traditions.) I so enjoy reading to him and bless his heart, he’s…

What Am I?
What strange creature these animals are – longish and flat like a pancake. They eat prickly pear cactus, spines and all. They are not pigs but look a lot alike. They have a strong family scent that helps keep the herd together. Weight: 40-50 pounds Lifespan: 15 years Offspring: 1-2 at a time Habitat: Desert with cacti, palo verde Diet: Cactus, seeds, roots, fruit My boys are going hunting for these JAVELINA; so this means another camping trip for the family. Rain is predicted. Camping & rain is a bad mix. I’m a hopin’ it won’t. Have a great weekend.

A Touch of Winter
Old Man Winter stopped by just long enough last night for Serenity to make this: The snowflakes were quite big. This morning the view from our front window was stunning. The snow will most likely all be gone by this afternoon. It usually is here for a day before it melts. That’s one thing I like about where we live – we get a touch of snow but not weeks and weeks.
