Birthday Time for Justus
Look who turned 4 this week! This is the boy who locked himself in the church bathroom and couldn’t get out, and another time when he was procrastinating eating his broccoli, received a phone call that caused him to eat it up. During my recent trip to Pennsylvania, when he stayed home with his daddy and brothers, Russell came upstairs one day to find him with 2 eggs on the counter and the frying pan heating up. Having no mother around to take care of him I guess it was a matter of survival. He’s a fun little guy. I’m already thinking of how, not too long from now, I’ll be teaching him…

Adios to Part of the Farm
´The past 4 days was full of frenetic activity. Our 4 oldest children sold their 4-H animals. We had a steer, lamb and 2 pigs. Zachary and Serenity also showed their dogs. It’s great fun after having an animal for the last 3-6 months to take it to EXPO and sell. The 4-H volunteers do so much – they really put their all into it for the kids. It’s very well run and little extras to make things even better are always being added. At their community meeting they are each required to give a speech. Here is Wesley and Serenity giving theirs together. This is Serenity’s first year and she is…

VA Tech Testimony
A friend sent us this testimony about her son. The providence of God is so wonderful. God’s care over us is always there but so many times we just don’t recognize it. Dear Friends and Family, I just felt to write a note to all of you concerning the tragedy which occurred here in our town this week. I am overwhelmed and so thankful for all of the phone calls and emails we have received from all of you asking about our family and especially our son, ****. Your concern and caring has meant so much to our family this week, and especially to **** who was closer to this tragedy…

A Harrowing Day
Yesterday (Sunday) was our 18th wedding anniversary. It doesn’t seem that long since we walked down the aisle together but here we are 18 years later with 6 wonderful children. The Lord certainly blessed my life when he gave me Russell. He has helped me in countless ways to grow as a person, has been a true Christian and an outstanding father. That afternoon we were faced with the realization of how quickly things can change. Russell was taking a nap and the rest of us were doing various things. Seth was in the Living Room reading a book and I was in the Library. I heard Seth’s feet repeatedly hitting…

Take Time for Beauty
This entry is quite long but I think you’ll find it quite interesting. In January, the Washington Post did an experiment to see if people would take the time to stop to hear a street musician, would they take a moment out of their busy schedules for beauty, would they even notice this talented man or hurry past. For their experiment they had Joshua Bell, a world renowned violinist, play classical music for 45 minutes. This same young man plays for heads of state, standing room only auditoriums, and gets paid up to $1,000 a minute. The violin he used was his own, an original Stradavarius bought for 3.2 million. Here are some excerpts from the article. "In…
