• WWI Study – High School Speech

We’ve started our WWI study in preparation for a group of us getting together in August (not sure about the date yet) for a speech day where each of the kids will give a speech on something they’ve been studying related to WWI. To begin Wesley’s study he is reading Lusitania by Diana Preston. For our high school students we have started steering them away from giving an informative speech and are asking them to experiment with new types of speeches.  This year they can choose from the following: Special Occasion Speaking (SOS): SOS is an event where students prepare a humorous speech on a timely and relevant topic. This can be influenced…

  • The Birth of a Goat Kid

!!WARNING!!  If you don’t like to see pictures of little goats that are dirty and are just being born… you might want to skip this post.  But if you’re not bothered by all that’s squeamish… continue on. I had never seen one of our goat kids being born till last week. What an exciting moment for me and Justus. Sugar, the momma, had already had 1 kid before I arrived. When I came into the barn, here is what she looked like.  She started to make some low maaing noises and then… out came a kid in its sack. Sugar proceeded to clean it before she had her 3rd baby.  All 3…

  • Sprucing up the Master Bedroom

We’ve now lived 15 years,as of December, in a home we designed and built ourselves. (Or rather my hubby built it.  I just kept him well fed.)  The 15 years has went by so quickly.  So quickly that there are still projects unfinished after all this time! 🙂  I’m sure you know how it is.  You just get used to how things look and only get to things when they really need done. Like my bedroom…  We left it white all those years ago because I wanted to paint it but I didn’t know what color.  I’m still undecided. 🙂  I also wanted to make a nice little seating area in there but that never happened.  You getting…

  • Christmas 2010

Well after going through about 1,000 photos (I kid you not.  Between my daughter and nieces they took over 1,000) I have managed to choose a few more than you probably care to see… The girls had their own private photo shoot Christmas morning and afternoon and evening.  (Just how did you think they managed to take over 1,000 photos?) 🙂 They have such good times when they get together. (they live 3 hours away) After we opened gifts, at least half of them being handmade…  (Handmade is the best, don’t you think?) (Cousins -Wesley and Enoch.) and signed socks… 🙂 the boys retired to their old bedroom, now turned playroom for…

  • A Christmas Tablescape

I had fun putting this one together.  It’s my usual simple style but I think it looks very Christmassy.  This is pretty much how out table will look for our Christmas dinner except that I will be setting a table for 20. This picture was taken without a flash. My apologies for the poor quality. This centerpiece I put together using a silver tray I had on hand (got this idea from another blogger but can’t remember who- never would have thought of it).  I found garland for 75% off at Goodwill, the cranberries from Salvation Army, candles and flower from Wal-Mart.  I am totally pleased with how it turned…
