• A Green Tablescape with Some Purple Accents

Most of the children were gone so I had an opportunity to use my green placemats and napkins that I’ve had for many years.  I love their color. The centerpiece was some dried flowers I had bought for a craft project which has not been completed! My Scottish plate showing the national flower for Scotland – the thistle. Thank you for stopping by.  I hope you enjoyed your visit!  Visit Between Naps on the Porch for more tablescape inspiration.

  • Family Life Updates 6/13 – 6/19/11

Zachary is finally on the mend!  On Monday we took him to the doctor after he’d been running a fever for a week and having a cough that sounded like bronchitis.  The doctor’s dianosis was that he had either acute bronchitis or pneumonia and then he prescribed some antibiotics. Zachary has finally started to eat.  He lost 17 pounds altogether and I’m sure this contributed to the next challenge he started experiencing – dehydration.  His muscles in every part of his body started to cramp up on him and cause him quite a bit of discomfort.  We started giving him salt and water and also found a recipe online for a healthy…

  • How to Make Yogurt – My Failures & Finally My Success

With our goats producing extra milk, above what we were able to drink, I was able to try making various milk-based products like Feta Cheese, Ricotta (the simplest of all) and yogurt.  Making your own yogurt can sound very simple and it really was after I found a method that actually worked. How NOT to Make Yogurt Since it’s been awhile since I had my yogurt failures I cannot tell you the exact ways I tried; I should have written this a long time ago!  I do know that I tried making it in my Easiyo yogurt maker and ended up having more of a kefir than a yogurt.  We used that…

  • A Book Lovers Tea Party for Young Ladies

The tea party club my daughter started almost 2 years ago with her Anne of Green Gables Tea Party (read about it here and here) is still continuing with this months tea party being hosted by Sophia, Meghan & Abigail.  The tea party is for older girls but if the siblings have younger sisters, we welcome them, too.  The theme was a “Ladies Book Society Tea Party”.  What a fun theme that was! Audrey decided to go as Pigling Bland, the character Beatrix Potter writes about in The Tale of Piglind Bland. A few weeks prior to the tea party, Audrey wanted to play Pigling Bland with Justus so she got…

  • A Special Evening – 60 Years of Marriage

Our guests are all gone now and we’re just getting the house back in order, laundry under control and some sleep, too!  But this past weekend we got to be part of a special evening – my sister’s mother and father-in-law were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.  I was elected to make the Tomato Caprese Salad.  Never having made one, it took me several tries and many questions to finally figure out how it’s done. In this picture I am not doing it correctly, but I’m blissfully unaware of it at the moment. 🙂 There was flower arranging being done by the expert family floral designer… antipasto platters being prepared… jars being filled with…
