A Non-Traditional Thanksgiving Meal
Thanksgiving – a wonderful time to be with family and depending on the year, some friends, too.
This year (like last year), our oldest won’t be here.
My oldest that has been spending half the year (it feels like) in the Great White North has once again left for a second year with helping some friends in their commercial ice fishing operation. (Click on the links to see some of his past trips – it’s pretty interesting)
Zachary, who was married this past May won’t be with us on Thanksgiving either.
I may have to adopt the Canadian Thanksgiving just to have my whole family here. Thanksgiving in October? – that would be a real mental switch. 🙂So, minus Seth, we had our little Thanksgiving dinner yesterday (Sunday).
The appetizer table before we left for church… later we added
Hot apple cider, crackers and cheese to help stave off the hunger pains.
We celebrated our Thanksgiving with a seafood theme…
on turkey plates no less.
Favor boxes made with my Silhouette Cameo (love that machine!) filled with the tiniest amount of popcorn and a few pieces of candy. Made by Serenity and crew.
I have so much to be thankful for.
The song “Great is thy Faithfulness” went on one side of the plate and on the other side was a card that read, “I am thankful for you because” and they were to write about the person sitting next to them, on their right.
Before dinner we sang, “Great is thy Faithfulness”. That song is a favorite with my family.
Our thankful tree right in the middle of our table reminding us to be thankful for the everyday things.
It was a delicious meal.

Thursday will be another Thanksgiving celebration with extended family.
Have you had to adopt a 2nd Thanksgiving just to accommodate all the family? Do you celebrate with a traditional meal of Turkey? It was also Serenity’s 16th birthday! Our sweet and gentle sweet pea who touches all of our lives with her kindness.
Happy Birthday, my darling!

Happy Birthday, Serenity! It is an honor to know you. I love your sweet, gentle spirit.
Sounds like a Thanksgiving with big adjustments. My mom always has Thanksgiving the Saturday before the actual day, so that everyone can go to the in-laws. Our Pyatskowit Thanksgiving consists of Joel’s dad, his 2 brothers and sister and all of their families. So, that comes to roughly 70 people. We have a traditional turkey dinner with wild rice (since it’s a traditional Menominee food) and pies for dessert. I like to make a turkey for our own family, too, so that we can have left-overs and turkey soup! (Just doesn’t seem like Thanksgiving without left-overs.) 😉 Happy Thanksgiving!

Kaitlyn, We did have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with extended family on Thanksgiving day, so that’s why I thought I should plan something different. I do love having a traditional turkey dinner. I think that’s pretty special, too.

We take turns on each side of the family, sharing Thanksgiving ON the actual day. Since my brother comes from Tucson every year, whether it is our turn to have Thanksgiving with my parents or not, it is a week, almost of thanksgiving meals…just not with the turkey. We found early on that we got tired of turkey to celebrate with turkey starting before the actual day. To me, it’s all about family,(and friends) and spending quality time each day with the family that celebrates Thanksgiving and of course, our daily thanksgiving to our Lord who has given us the gift of each special member of our families and our friends and so many other blessings.
