• Camping at Lake Powell

We have a little tradition that when our children finish their phonics program (Sing, Spell, Read and Write) we let them pick some place in our state they would like to go. My dear daughter, SH age 8, chose to go to Lake Powell, a beautiful lake on the Arizona-Utah border. We left last Monday taking my brother-in-law’s boat and then renting a water bike. All was going well at first. SM and ZJ were taking turns driving the water bike and their faces had the biggest smiles. Then WE decided to get on with them. For some reason they tipped and then the bike wouldn’t start. We got the…

  • Saving Money on Groceries

I have been reading a lot about saving money on groceries.  Thanks to those who shared with me what they do to save money.  You actually are the ones that made me even think about looking on the Internet for more ideas.  Here are some things I have learned: #1 Cutting back on groceries is probably the biggest area you can actually make a difference without having a major lifestyle change. #2 A price book is a very handy tool to use in your shopping. #3There is a lot of talk about couponing.  I’m not really convinced yet that buying the Sunday paper and printing coupons off the Interent would be very beneficial…

  • Grocery Budget

I haven’t personally taken the time to count every reference in the Bible made about money. The late Larry Burkett must have because he said there were more references made about money than any other single subject in the Bible. My husband handles our finances and does a very capable job of it. He does not see the need for us to be on a budget. He says if we don’t need it we won’t buy it and if we do need it we’ll buy it. Of course, this is a very convenient philosophy for me to live by. J But… My mother was always a saver. When my dad…

  • Camping Trip to Hawley Lake

Camping… ahhh, Let’s get away for a few days and just relax…ahhh. What doesn’t enter the mind at that moment is all the preparation that goes into the day after making such a restful decision. After the decision is made the fun begins. Okay, what’s the weather going to be like? Hmmm. The Internet says it will be about 66 degrees in the day and in the 30’s at night. After all we’ll be in the high country at 8,000 feet. I must get myself and the two little ones ready. Out come the jackets, hats, and pajamas that can double as long johns during the day since they might…

  • Susanna Wesley – Mother to John and Charles Wesley

Susanna Wesley lived from 1669-1742.  She had 19 children within 21 years although only 10 of them lived beyond childhood years. Kathy McReynolds has written a book called  “Susanna Wesley”.   It's part of the Women of Faith series and I found it to be well written and an enjoyable read. It is said that Susanna prayed for two hours a day!  Here is an excerpt from a letter she wrote to her oldest son Samuel.   I exhort you, as I am your faithful friend; and I command you, as I am your parent, to use your utmost diligence to make your calling and election sure; to be faithful to your God; and after I have said…
