  • Tackle It Tuesday #141

    February 24, 2009 / No Comments

My tackle this week was to get some bulk cooking done for different guests we have coming to visit. Who wouldn’t want to visit Arizona with all the sunshine and nice temperatures we have in the winter? I decided to make lasagna. First, I had to make the sauce. Lots of onions and garlic. Good stuff. I tried a new sauce that called for fresh and canned tomatoes. After the simmering process, I then put it through the blender to puree. Twelve pounds of ricotta was used as well as mozzarella and Parmesan. Whoa! That’s a lot of cheese! The finished products. Enough lasagna to feed at least 45…

  • Moments That Made Our Hearts Melt

    February 24, 2009 / 1 Comment

One of my reasons for blogging was to record little moments (and big) of my children. I’m just now getting to writing about Audrey (3yo) who made me smile a few months ago when I came into the room and found her with my camera. Sometimes I find the strangest pictures on the camera card. Pictures of the side of a head, a leg, a portion of the piano – multiple shots of each object. This day when I walked in she said, "Mom! I’m going to take a smile of you." Another day, she brought in a bunch of parsley from the garden and presented it to me. I…

  • C is for Cat

    February 24, 2009 / No Comments

For the A B See Photo Meme, I’m approaching it this way: my children will use this for their nature study. Each one has their own letter from the alphabet (starting at A) and they are to find something in nature that corresponds with that letter. They take a photo of it and place it in their Nature Study journal, as well as writing a few facts about it. Serenity (11) had the letter C this week. She is really enjoying taking the camera and going outside to see what she can find. She’s giving her best effort. I think the information below came from Handbook of Nature Study. C…

  • Review of Close-Up (Art Card Games)

    February 24, 2009 / No Comments

Close Up Art Card Games Can be purchased at Birdcage Press for $9.95/set This is a great little card game I picked up last Spring when visiting Colorado. The deck I have are paintings that can all be found at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, California. Included in the game are 48 cards. One card will be a picture of a famous painting, with the name of the painting and its artist printed on the front, and its match will be a close-up of a part of the painting with no title or artist mentioned. What I really like about this game is how it makes you…

  • Make Your Own Ironing Board Cover

    February 24, 2009 / No Comments

I made my own ironing board cover! At least part of it anyways. My mom took over when I ran into a problem and since I am not very expert in sewing and was rather busy with canning some spaghetti sauce – blah, blah blah – mom being such a kind, loving and helpful person took it upon herself to bail me out. I was glad! No complaints here. The whole process was really easy with only one snag which I’ll tell you about in a minute. We used this tutorial from U-Blog which utilizes your old ironing board cover . This picture shows the area we could never get…
