Headed for the Antarctic with 80 Bags of Dryer Lint
My Justus, who is 7, started collecting dryer lint. He had a handful that he put into a 13 gallon garbage bag, so you can imagine it was basically empty. After having it set around for several weeks, I tossed the lint and used the bag. Well you know how it is. As soon as you toss something, they think of it. Of course that is what happened with Justus – he went looking for it. I had to tell him that I had thrown it away and since I thought he wanted it to build fires I told him that he could always just go and get some out…

The Sweetness of Childhood
Just 1 1/2 weeks ago (it seems so much longer than that with all the traveling we’ve been doing) my niece Zoe came to visit for a few days. One morning we decided to go to a place near our house for a picnic breakfast. It was sunny but partly cloudy and just a bit on the cool side. The sun had went behind the clouds for a few moments but when it came back out my husband said, “There’s the sunshine…” Audrey piped up and said… “Who? Me?” We do call her Sunshine quite often – but not this time. My husband reply was, “Well you’re a sunshine, too,…

Saying Goodbye
This week we traveled about 1,500 miles. I had an uncle on my mom’s side of the family pass away in California and we went to his funeral. That same week I had another uncle on my dad’s side pass away back here in Arizona. Even though it was a time of sorrow, it was also joy because they were both Christians. “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.” John 11:24-25 My cousin Eugene is still in intensive care in an induced coma…

Working on My Winter Mantle (Again!)
After not changing my mantle decor for so many years (and me a lover of change! Shocking!), I have been playing around with my mantle since Christmas. Would you like to see the transitions its made in just two months time? You do? Good, because I’m ready to do a little show-n-tell. 🙂 My first attempt at a Christmas/Winter mantle started like this. I built the gate, which I talked about here. I am having trouble with the formatting here so I’m just going to add a bunch of extra spaces here to get it to align properly. Just a little more and there, it’s done. I thought it looked a little…

A Romantic Tablescape
Today’s romantic tablescape for two was a nice diversion from my usual settings for 8. This tablescape presented its own challenges since the table was quite small and it was easy to get everything too squeezed together, and as always I seem to get stumped when it comes to centerpiece ideas. Here are the components that made up the two table settings. I started with red plates I found on clearance at Kmart, with a smaller plate that has a tiny flower print purchased when my husband and I went to Scotland several years ago and lastly an even smaller clear dish given to me by a friend. I thought it would be fun to incorporate Scrabble letters. …
