Nature Can Show Up in Unexpected Places
You never know where you might find nature. Zachary sketched this after finding it in his bed. Now, don’t get too alarmed hearing that they’re in his bed. He sleeps outside (Not because I’m a mean mom but by choice. If you want to know the whole of it, three of my boys are sleeping on our balcony this summer. They don’t need soft padding, I guess.) So, that’s where Zachary found this Eastern blood-sucking conenose. I think he made a pretty good drawing of it. Here is a picture of one I found on the Web. Maybe you should check YOUR bed this morning.

Goats, Puppies & Chicks
Things have changed around here the last week; we are becoming a real bona-fide farm. We now have 2 milking goats (purebred Nubians), which Zachary milks morning and evening. He is our early bird and loves being outside so he’s really enjoying this job. He has a garden planted that he tends to every day, keeping his plot weed free and checking to see what seeds have sprouted. I’m counting his gardening and goat keeping as part of his science for homeschool. Nubian kid. We have eight Boer meat goats. And of couse there’s our puppies. "Heeelp! I’m stuck!" (the sound of howling) Playing a little ‘follow the leader’. "Squawk! Cluck, cluck,…

Yet Still I May Sing
I’M A CHILD OF THE KING My Father is rich in houses and lands; He holdeth the wealth of the world in His hands! Of rubies and diamonds, of silver and gold, His coffers are full-He has riches untold. My Father’s own Son, the Savior of men, Once wandered o’er earth as the poorest of them; But now He is reigning forever on high, And will give me a home in heav’n by and by. I once was an outcast stranger on earth, A sinner by choice and an alien by birth; But I’ve been adopted; my name’s written down- An heir to a mansion, a robe, and a crown.…

Cool Jicama Slaw
This is my first time to participate in the Favorite Ingredients Friday (FIF). This week they’re focusing on Healthy Eating. Be sure to visit Overwhelmed With Joy for more recipes. I have made this slaw. It is just as the name implies – cool and refreshing. Jicama is a tasty little vegetable. Cool Jicama Slaw (Serves 4) 1 jicama, peeled and julienned (about 4 cups) 2 tsp. minced jalapeno pepper 3 Tbl. fresh orange juice 1Tbl. fresh lime juice 1 tsp. rice vinegar 3 Tbl. chopped fresh cilantro Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper Place the jicama in a mixing bowl. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 teaspoon of the…

Less Talk
…and as ill weeds grow apace, the defects of a fine character may well choke out the graces. A boy is ambitious; he will be leader in the nursery, and his lead is wholesome for the rest; but there is the pugnacious little brother who will not ‘follow my leader’ and the two can hardly live in the same rooms; the able boy is a tyrant when his will is crossed. … What is the parents’ part here? To magnify the quality; make the child feel that he or she has a virtue to guard––a family possession, and, at the same time, a gift from above. A little simple reasonable…
