A Sandy Splashing Time
We were off on Monday for a 3 day getaway to Lake Powell – one of the most beautiful lakes. I did take our Nature Journals along. They weren’t overly excited about taking the time to sketch something but of course, looking back at their drawing they’ll be quite happy, I’m sure. (I like to think positively.) Here was our home away from home for three days. Don’t you love when you have all your sweethearts close-by at night? Our camp was set up at the base of this rock that Seth climbed. Can you see the white speck at the top? That’s him. A close-up. Zachary doing some fishing. Does anyone…

How to Tell if an Egg is Fertile or Not
Did you know you can determine if an egg is fertile or not fertile by looking at the germ spot? The germ spot is the white spot on the yolk. The non-fertile germ spot contains only the female’s cells and looks like a solid white spot. In a fertile egg the germ spot contains both the female and male cells. Creative Endeavors in the Kitchen
I have a multitude of interests, but one that is near the top of the list is cooking. My love of cooking more then likely came from my dad. While growing up, Sunday mornings was his time to be in the kitchen. Sometimes he made oatmeal which was the creamiest, tastiest oatmeal I’ve ever had, even to this day. But what I remember most was the times he made the works. Homemade biscuits (or canned biscuits), scrambled…

Appreciating the Life and Music of George Frideric Handel
For Music Appreciation this week we read about George Frideric Handel 1685-1759. We read Hallelujah Handel by Douglas Cowling illustrated by Jason Walker. The artist did a beautiful job with the illustrations and the author wrote an interesting story. It was about 3 orphans who met Handel by carrying his bags. I only wished there had been more information about Handel interspersed throughout the story. We learned more about the orphans than Handel himself. I do think that what we did learn the children will not forget. Rapt Attention Handicraft work while listening. Even the four-year-old was tuned in to the story. I intend to follow up this book with the…
