• Review of Close-Up (Art Card Games)

Close UpArt Card Games Can be purchased at Birdcage Press for $9.95/set This is a great little card game I picked up last Spring when visiting Colorado. The deck I have are paintings that can all be found at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, California. Included in the game are 48 cards. One card will be a picture of a famous painting, with the name of the painting and its artist printed on the front, and its match will be a close-up of a part of the painting with no title or artist mentioned. What I really like about this game is how it makes you really…

  • Make Your Own Ironing Board Cover

I made my own ironing board cover! At least part of it anyways. My mom took over when I ran into a problem and since I am not very expert in sewing and was rather busy with canning some spaghetti sauce – blah, blah blah – mom being such a kind, loving and helpful person took it upon herself to bail me out. I was glad! No complaints here. The whole process was really easy with only one snag which I’ll tell you about in a minute. We used this tutorial from U-Blog which utilizes your old ironing board cover . This picture shows the area we could never get…

  • Tackle It Tuesday #140

I looked in this cupboard one evening and the utter untidiness of it all struck me. What a mess! This has got to change! Hmmm, how could I improve it? Then I had an aha moment. I remembered these little organizers I had tried to sell for $.25 at my first ever garage sale and nobody had wanted them. Thankfully – since now they would come in very handy. Oh, yes. Muuuch better. I love it! The trays on the left are used very infrequently so it matters not that they’re stacked because when I do need them, I’ll just slide them out, choose my paper and then slide it…

  • Study That Didn't Take Much Study

Take a look at this Frosted Mini-Wheats box – at the very top where it says Clinically Shown to improve kids’ attentiveness by nearly 20%. In very small print there is a 1 next to the 20%. If you read the footnote for that notation here is what it says. Based upon independent clinical research, kids who ate Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats cereal for breakfast had up to 13% better attentiveness three hours after breakfast than kids who ate no breakfast. I hope they didn’t spend too much time on this “in depth” study – or very much money. Funny how they try to wow you with their studies but then…

  • Nature Inspiration

I sat and gazed in silence At the azure sky overhead. In the glory of that moment, A simple prayer was said. I thanked God for all the grandeur, For His beauty everywhere, I praised the Great Creator As I sat in silent prayer. I found an inspiration And a peace within my soul,, I took the time to worship And I felt myself made whole. – Lois Anne Williams Picture taken looking across the valley from our house.
