• Tackle it Tuesday #142

An old trunk. What treasure? What heirloom could it be holding? Oh, I must find out! Aggghhh! What is this MESS?! A game trunk that needs Organization. It happened one evening my little ones and some other small visitors had a lot of [choke, choke] fun seeing how many games they could pull out. Havoc was wreaked. This has nagged me for weeks but I determined to tackle it this week. I bought a few plastic storage containers. Two big ones that will store 2 or 3 games each (depending on the size) and a smaller shoe box size one to hold card games. My thinking is that if they…

  • Immersing Ourselves in the Middle Ages

Once a year, myself and some other homeschoolers from our church, get together for a speech/co-op day. Several months before we give our speeches, we vote on a topic; the children study it, write a speech and then deliver it to friends and family on the appointed day. We go all out with props, costumes, food and games. The children get to put into play their creative skills and practice speech making. This will be our 5th year. Thus far our Co-op days have been… Democratic Republic of the Congo (we have a family at our church that moved from there and we thought it would be a great opportunity…

  • Tackle It Tuesday #141

My tackle this week was to get some bulk cooking done for different guests we have coming to visit. Who wouldn’t want to visit Arizona with all the sunshine and nice temperatures we have in the winter? I decided to make lasagna. First, I had to make the sauce. Lots of onions and garlic. Good stuff. I tried a new sauce that called for fresh and canned tomatoes. After the simmering process, I then put it through the blender to puree. Twelve pounds of ricotta was used as well as mozzarella and Parmesan. Whoa! That’s a lot of cheese! The finished products. Enough lasagna to feed at least 45 people.…

  • Moments That Made Our Hearts Melt

One of my reasons for blogging was to record little moments (and big) of my children. I’m just now getting to writing about Audrey (3yo) who made me smile a few months ago when I came into the room and found her with my camera. Sometimes I find the strangest pictures on the camera card. Pictures of the side of a head, a leg, a portion of the piano – multiple shots of each object. This day when I walked in she said, “Mom! I’m going to take a smile of you.” Another day, she brought in a bunch of parsley from the garden and presented it to me. I…

  • C is for Cat

For the A B See Photo Meme, I’m approaching it this way: my children will use this for their nature study. Each one has their own letter from the alphabet (starting at A) and they are to find something in nature that corresponds with that letter. They take a photo of it and place it in their Nature Study journal, as well as writing a few facts about it. Serenity (11) had the letter C this week. She is really enjoying taking the camera and going outside to see what she can find. She’s giving her best effort. I think the information below came from Handbook of Nature Study. C…
