The Outline of a Menu Plan
Do you make a menu plan? Well I have been woefully neglectful of any type of menu planing for awhile now. It takes time to make a menu but it’s time well spent because I don’t have to wonder every day, “What am I going to make for supper?” Here are some of the advantages I thought of that menu planning gives. Advantages of Having a Menu Plan Wake up each day knowing exactly what you’re having for supper; no more stressing. YES! Meat can be taken out of the freezer early in the day so it can actually have a chance to defrost (If I didn’t have a pressure cooker that cooks frozen meat, I would have…

A Lapidarist Comes to Visit
Last week we were introduced to a hobby/occupation I had never heard about. Lapidary According to Wikipedia… A lapidary (the word means “concerned with stones”) is an artist or artisan who forms stone, mineral, gemstones, and other suitably durable materials into decorative items such as engraved gems, including cameos, or cabochons, and faceted designs. If I use the term lapidary or lapidarist incorrectly, please let me know. I’m a little confused about what’s right. Anyways, this old acquaintance of my husband’s family was here from Canada. He’s in his 80’s but he drove himself down the west coast, teaching lapidary as he went. We were able to spend a short…

Peach Cobbler: Adapted for Using Home Canned Peaches
Zachary turned 19 years old last Saturday and we finally celebrated that momentous occasion by ending our evening meal with a Peach Cobbler. Justus was the happy bearer of the birthday cobbler. I really like cobblers but so many times I find them to be overly sweet. What I like about this recipe and the way I adapted it is that it is has just the right amount of sugar. When looking at the recipe I thought it might not be sweet enough but I was wrong. I found it to be just right. If you have any peaches, canned in prior years, this is the recipe to use. Peach Cobbler adapted…

Nautical Theme Tablescape
We were having company for dinner and I was serving fish. I started wondering what I could do to make the table look “fishy”. Now, I never used to think about how I would dress up my tables but Susan at Between Naps on the Front Porch has made me start to think. Many times I don’t have a clue what to do or I don’t have anything that seems appropriate but this time I managed to scrape up a few props to go along with my Nautical Theme I always have so much fun doing this, especially when things seem to come together. The shells and fish net were all…

Skiing Arizona in March
What a wonderful few days we spent this week in the high country of Arizona. There is a ski resort, ran by Apaches, that is still open for business although the snow was icy in parts and slushy in others. Optimum snow it was not but we had a good time anyways! I figure if everyone could ski on that snow they would be incredible on decent snow. There was quite a group of us and we got in under a school rate. A great price for ski rentals, lift ticket & condo made us all very happy skiers. 🙂 Here we’re standing in front of the condo. It was very…
