A Boat Proposal
The years just seem to speed by quicker than ever and here we are in 2019. January has flown by and we are up to our necks in wedding plans because our daughter is getting married!
Just a few years ago…
And now…
My future son-in-law Austin, planned a most fun and romantic proposal. Here’s how it went.
Russell, Serenity and I dropped Austin at the airport. He was supposedly flying out. Instead of doing that, his mom and grandparents on his dad’s side flew in.
Russell was supposedly taking Serenity and me on a weekend getaway. We had a nice day shopping in Phoenix and then headed for our hotel room. Russell decided he was going to take us on an evening boat ride that Serenity had told him about in Tempe for a picnic supper.
He took us to the hotel while he “went shopping” for our picnic. In the meantime, Austin and his family were decorating the boat. Serenity’s cousins, Lilianna and Hadassah were helping too because I had secretly asked them to come take pictures of the proposal.
We left the hotel and headed for the boat rental. Everyone but Austin was located above the lake on a bridge. We went to the rental boat where the man on staff was totally on board with what was happening and played his role so convincingly that I almost believed him. He had only 1 boat available but “unfortunately” it was still decorated in State Farm Insurance colors because they had used it for a party and they had not had time to take it down. State Farm is located nearby and we saw the building so it was believable. The only thing was he “needed” us to take him to the other dock to get a package from his boss which was where we needed to go because Austin was there waiting to get on board and we had to get off. So the dock manager hopped on board and we headed for the other dock.
We’re on the boat and she’s totally unaware of what’s going to transpire in the next few minutes.
Heading to the dock that you can see on the right. The boat was perfectly named, “Amply Blessed”.
Once we arrived at the dock, they tied the boat off and the boat manager hopped off. Russell then blindfolded us both – me first so Serenity would know I was blindfolded and then her. He said he was taking us to a special spot in the lake. Austin hopped on and we hopped off.
Pushing the boat off…
Serenity obediently never said a word because Russell told her, “No talking”! Austin left the boat dock and made a beeline to the bridge where…
his mom had draped a sheet over the side of the bridge that said, “Serenity, will you marry me,” and Serenity never said a word the whole time. 🙂 If she had spoken it could have ruined the surprise because she would wonder why Russell wasn’t responding.
Serenity never suspected a thing. Austin pulled her to her feet but she thought it was Russell.
He took the blindfold off and it took her a moment to grasp that it was Austin standing in front of her. He told her some really sweet things…
…went down on one knee and proposed.
Austin got to his feet and hollered, “She said, YES,” after hearing her answer.
And the rest is history. ❤️
A few more pictures of the happy day.
Just missing Nana.
We celebrated at Macayo’s Depot Catina in Tempe – an excellent Mexican restaurant.

Sure was planned out so well and love that they got to even have it photographed. The lighting and all turned out too. This is just fabulous! Thanks for sharing!!!

It was so special that we could be a part of this big day in Serenity & Austin’s life. ♥

I can’t see what the first word says on the stern of the boat but the last word is certainly apropos!
This tops any marriage proposal I’ve ever heard of and kinda nice so many family members could be involved.
Time has certainly flown by since the lifting off in a helicopter from your reception venue Elisabeth!

Oh yes, it doesn’t seem quite possible that almost 30 years has passed since we took off in the helicopter! That was such a memorable moment.
I was planning on putting the name of the boat in my post and totally forgot. I’m glad you reminded me. It was called “Amply Blessed”. 🙂
