Trips We've Made

North to Canada

We have arrived…. in Canada. Only 5 days till my oldest son gets married! The next few days we will be doing some preparing for the rest of my family who are to arrive on Thursday and taking care of a few decorations that I still need to do for the rehearsal dinner.

We made a few stops along the drive here to the Great White North (Canada).

The first was Colorado Springs.  We arrived in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Friday afternoon after driving through the night. We made a stop at the Air Force Academy where we met up with a friend who is a cadet in training there at the Academy.

This is the chapel at the Air Force Academy, the most popular place at the Academy to visit.

The 4,000 pipe organ.

We were able to go behind the scenes since we were with one of the Academy’s students.

I always find the stories of military life, the most interesting.

Do you see the narrow strips of marble that is inlaid in the concrete below?  We learned that first year cadets are only allowed to walk on that marble and only on the outer edge.

For supper we went to Amanda’s Cantina in Colorado Springs. Great salsa and good food!

Saturday, you know where we had to go! Focus on the Family where the highlight is for the kids to visit Whit’s End. Although we have never been big fans or avid listeners of Adventures in Odyssey, the kids have listened to it enough to know all about it. Focus has done a really nice job of taking the stories that have been centered around Odyssey and only in the imaginations of kids and bringing them to life.

There’s a 3 story slide to go down that has a lot of curves.

And this was me arriving at the bottom. For whatever reason, I was flat on my back which, unbeknownst to me, made me go even faster. I was squealing the whole way down and could hear the man up top laughing at me. You can see the lady’s reaction at the bottom. She said I was the best one yet. lol

One of the best things we did was signing up to do a radio drama.

You get to bring home the completed CD and it’s all free!

It was a lot of fun.

And of course we had to visit the Soda Shoppe.

That night we were in South Dakota where we visited Mt. Rushmore! Now my favorite is to see it in the day but it was nice how quiet it was and peaceful when you are there at night. It’s located away from the city, so there’s no noise… unless you’re in the middle of large crowds which is not the case at night. There was almost no one there.

All of the things we saw was done on this one day!

After a lovely Sunday at a church in South Dakota (the friendliest church I think I have ever been to), we drove another 7 hours and arrived in Minot, North Dakota at 1am where we turned in for the night… a little closer to our destination.
