Paper Cutter

and

Tape

so let’s pretend it is, okay?

I saw this idea the other day (maybe on Pinterest?) and thought it was so cute.

It’s such a simple project. It took me less than 5 minutes.

I had some vintage looking Christmas music I had saved from another project that ended up being a big Fail…:(

Isn’t the cover adorable?

…so I took that and used my paper-cutter to cut the music to the size of the candles.

And here’s where the tape came in to perform its part.  I taped the music to the candles.

The music doesn’t go completely around the entire candle, there’s about a 1/2″ gap, but I don’t think it’s a problem.

This “craft” was so simple and easy but I think it really adds a nice touch.

Thanksgiving Name Cards https://treasuringthemoments.net/2010/11/12/thanksgiving-name-cards/ https://treasuringthemoments.net/2010/11/12/thanksgiving-name-cards/#comments Fri, 12 Nov 2010 16:59:06 +0000 http://treasuringthemoments.net/?p=693594 For most of my dinner gatherings I use name cards. They’re fun to make and it just seems to add a fun touch, in my opinion.  When using name cards, I try to seat people with someone that I think they’ll be comfortable with.

Here are a few ideas I’ve found for Thanksgiving.

Martha Stewart has this Mayflower centerpiece.  Unless you enlarge it, the template is not big enough for a centerpiece.  It also is much too time consuming and complicated. Have you ever heard of veneer for a craft project? I wouldn’t even know where to find it.

Kids' Tables Centerpiece

For my Mayflower I used construction paper (after my first failed attempt using Martha’s directions) and hot glued it together.  Very easy.  I also used a thin bamboo skewer for the mast hot gluing it in, too.  I filled the hull with a few almonds to give it more stability.

Oops, I forgot the drinking glass in my miniature tablescape.

Another idea for a place card is to take a napkin and make an envelope fold, then seal it with a name.  Here is a video that shows you step by step directions.

Here is a shot of both types of name cards. If you did use the envelope fold with a name card, you could still use the Mayflower for added decoration at each place setting. You could write on both masts something besides a name. How about the following? …for this bounty we are thankful.

Do you like using name cards?  Why or why not?

13 days til Thanksgiving!

My New DIY Thread Rack https://treasuringthemoments.net/2010/06/07/my-new-diy-thread-rack/ https://treasuringthemoments.net/2010/06/07/my-new-diy-thread-rack/#comments Tue, 08 Jun 2010 06:12:59 +0000 http://homeschoolblogger.com/timbuck2mom/?p=693088 I’ve been wanting a thread rack – you know the thingamajig I’m talking about right?  It’s a rack that holds all your sewing thread and not only are you able to readily see what colors you have on hand, you actually have a storage area for all your thread.  I wasn’t really sure how to make one but thanks to Sugar Bee and her Thread Rack Tutorial I was able to see that it is quite possible to make your own.

So, using some of that pink pegboard my brother-in-law gave us, I had my son…

cut it to the exact dimensions for the area in which it would hang and then spray painted it black.

I used a 1/4″ dowel and spray painted that black, as well.  I then cut it into 2″ pieces using a chop saw and then sanded and spray painted the ends.  Next I glued the pieces into the pegboard remembering to only place them every other hole.

And here it is.  A completed thread rack for about $2.00

Here it hangs next to my sewing pegboard organizer.

If you want to make one for yourself be sure to look at Sugar Bee’s tutorial.

If you want to see what others have been up to this week visit here.
