Winter Craft Idea: Decorating Candles with Christmas Carols
I don’t know if what I’m about to post really is a craft but hey, it did involve the Paper Cutter and Tape so let’s pretend it is, okay? I saw this idea the other day (maybe on Pinterest?) and thought it was so cute. It’s such a simple project. It took me less than 5 minutes. I had some vintage looking Christmas music I had saved from another project that ended up being a big Fail…:( Isn’t the cover adorable? …so I took that and used my paper-cutter to cut the music to the size of the candles. And here’s where the tape came in to…

My 2012 Winter Mantle
This mantle was so much fun for me to put together. I had NO idea what I wanted to do when I started but after I finished my bookcase vignette (you’ll see it in a later post), I had an idea of doing the mantle in a vintage look. The finished mantle sort of reminds me of something you might see at Cracker Barrel. I’m loving it. I used a collection of old cooking pieces I had purchased years. The shutter on the left was salvaged several years ago from our wood pile to be burned. I sanded it a bit to make it more distressed and now it’s a…

A Blessed Thanksgiving Holiday
Thanksgiving for me always brings to mind Family Friends Food Thankfulness for the many ways we are Blessed This year we flew to Pennsylvania for 10 days and spent Thanksgiving with my sister and her family as well as mom and dad. We had some interesting flight times. We woke from our beds at 3:00 to catch our 6 a.m.morning special flight and would have spent the rest of the day in a fog except the airlines was kind enough to arrange a 5 hour layover for us in Chicago. So we decided to see if we could get all 6 of us people’s that were flying into the…

World War I Co-op Speech Day – Part II
We’re home from a lovely Thanksgiving in Pennsylvania with family. So I need to finish telling you about our World War I homeschool day. In my last post on our WWI speech day, I mentioned some of the speeches that were given. (The Sinking of the Lusitania, Donuts, Sgt. York, Army Nurses, Life in the Trenches, War Dogs and Cher-Ami the carrier pigeon. After the aforementioned speeches, we heard about The Forgotten Warriors (war horses), and then Wesley came and told us about Air Warfare and specifically Frank Luke. I found this to be an interesting point he brought out in his speech; although there are always conflicting numbers, the average…

Our World War I Co-op Speech Day – Part I
I have learned that… morning functions are a bit challenging.(cough, cough) Our World War I speech co-op day was held Saturday with guests arriving at 10:30a.m. so that we could begin at 11a.m., the time the war ended. But because of the challenge of morning functions, 🙂 we officially started about 11:15 with the shooting of our cannon and 30 seconds of silence. We had a really good day, the event was smaller than some of our others have been but for some reason I enjoyed it so much. Headquarters was in a canvas wall tent with a wood burning stove to keep us toasty or hot as some probably…
