Valentine’s Day Recap
Valentine’s Day ended up being pretty special for us. It was a hectic day since I had to run to town for a few appointments and didn’t get home till about 5 in the afternoon. I had planned to have Chinese – egg rolls, egg drop soup and possibly making a Beef Chow Mein. I had never made Beef Chow Mein but thought I would attempt it but then I started thinking of the schedule and decided I would just pick up a couple of things from the Chinese restaurant instead for our main dish. First we ate our egg rolls and egg drop soup at the kitchen table. (you…

Giving Love Notes & a Few Inexpensive Gifts for Valentine’s Day
I love having special traditions and celebrating occasions. Well guess what occasion I’m preparing for? Hint… it’s all about love and hearts. Valentine’s Day! So much fun making my family feel special and it also gives me a chance to be a little creative. My sweet and thoughtful family (I just lurve them!) bought me a Silhouette Cameo for Christmas and I’ve been having fun with it! Moving Forward Towards Long-term Income
Five years ago, my oldest son graduated from our homeschool high school. I rode him heavy about furthering his education since he was such a perfect student (so studious!). He could have been a poster child for any school. They would have been proud to call him their own. High school was over and now the next step was to go to college. Russell wasn’t big on college. He didn’t like the college scene idea, among other things. I talked to Seth a bit I talked to him till I was blue in the face to get him to head for college, to become an engineer since math seemed to be his passion. He didn’t really…

Never Assume
Justus had just poured the dry ingredients for the waffles we were making in with the wet batter. The Kitchen-Aid was turned on but didn’t get the sides clean. I suggested that Justus get a spatula. He did. But it was a metal spatula, and metal spatulas just don’t work too well when cleaning the sides of a bowl. 🙂 Never assume they know the basics. I felt like I had Amelia Bedilia in the kitchen; you know, the lady who takes everything literally. 🙂 It’s just so completely adorable how these little guys think. Enjoy the moments with your small children today, they pass quickly.

Habit Training in Ourselves and Our Children – Part II
How does one go about the forming of a habit both in ourselves and our children? Start with focusing on only one thing that you desire to change. In a famous article published in 1983, Anya Bateman tells how she changed her life by focusing on only one thing she wanted to change and then doing it for 21 days. For some of the habits she was trying to form, she kept a journal of her thoughts and excuses and anything else that came up that made her not want to keep her agreement with herself. While working on forming a habit, we must be ever careful not to let ourselves or our…
