  • A Christmas Tradition – Children’s Books

    December 19, 2013 / 1 Comment

In 2000 we started a tradition of buying a children’s Christmas book each year. Each year we bring out all the Christmas books we have bought over the years and try to read them all at some point before we put them away till the following year. The first year we had The Candymaker’s Gift. It’s a story about the legend of the candy cane.   Then it was A Cricket’s Carol, a sweet book about a little orphan boy who finds a home and family.   Then we’ve had The Candle in the Window.   A Child’s Christmas at St. Nicholas Circle   Christmas Day in the Morning (…

  • My 2013 Winter Mantle & Holiday Decorations

    December 16, 2013 / 5 Comments

The pantry is in working order again, the fall decorations put away and the decorations out for the Christmas season. I have to thank my daughter Serenity for being so helpful.  She loves the little traditions we do each year and was eager to get everything decorated.  Between her and the younger ones, they did a lot. The winter village that we’ve had for years and is the kids’ absolute favorite thing. At night… The man used to have a fish on the end of his pole but that has disappeared.  This year Audrey had the bright idea to tear off a bit of marshmallow for the end of the…

  • My Pantry Before and After

    December 13, 2013 / 11 Comments

The moment the paint was cured enough for me to put my items back into my pantry I began.  It had been 4 days for part of the shelves and 5 days for the others. It is really hard to cook when your counters are covered. I had been wanting to move some things around in my kitchen and pantry and with everything out of the pantry, it made it much easier and possible. So here is the finished result. And a few more… For my canned goods, I used my own DIY shelf organizer. It woks lovely! Showing you the goods in my pantry you’re able to see all…

  • What Happens When You Jump Into a Pantry Make-Over

    December 11, 2013 / 4 Comments

It really started off as a whim. I was home with only my two youngest and really really wanting to paint my bedroom but since I didn’t have paint, that couldn’t happen. But then… oh, but then I stepped into my pantry (not telling why I was going in there) 🙂 when I saw this… And thought, “I should paint my pantry!” I’m glad I thought it would be a quick and easy project or I never would have started. Everything came out of the pantry and on to two tables in my kitchen. Oh yeah, and my counters.  In other words, stuff is everywhere! Two days spent painting in…

  • Showing Appreciation to Those Around You

    December 6, 2013 / 2 Comments

Who doesn’t enjoy being told that they are appreciated, that their life has influenced another? We all enjoy that but how often do we express to others what they have meant to us? I know I’m certainly remiss in this but since November’s monthly challenge for our Castle Keeper girls was appreciation, I have been considering it quite a bit. What if, for no reason at all, we blessed others with small food items (especially the elderly), gave cards to people expressing to them how they have blessed you, or just did random acts of kindness for others? Not only would they be blessed but I’m sure we would be,…
