    October 12, 2008 / 3 Comments

I have had my Lewis & Clark Dutch Oven since 2004.  I don’t know what exactly inspired me to get one in the first place, I think I was just intrigued to try things the old-fashioned way when we go on our hunting trips. The problem is I’m not really wanting to have a burned mess when I’m out in the woods with no back-up provisions to satisfy the troops.  So, I haven’t used it much.  In the 3 years since then I have tried a green chile stew and some popcorn.  This year I decided to get it out again from its storage place in our travel trailer and wash…

  • Laundry Simplified

    October 10, 2008 / 4 Comments

I have had a laundry sorter/organizer for several years but not only have I had more children since I bought it, they are now getting big. (6 kids, ages 18, 16, 13, 11, 5, 2)  Bigger Kids = Bigger Loads of Laundry in my house Recently, this started to become a problem not only because of the children’s size but because I’ve taken on some additional responsibilities which has caused my laundry piles to get away from me.  Laundry was flowing out of my organizer to the floor.  I would think "I’ll get to it TODAY," but then something would hinder and it would be there the next day. This would not do.  As…

  • Happy 18th Birthday, Son

    October 8, 2008 / 3 Comments

My oldest son has turned 18 as of yesterday.  It seems as if life is changing pretty quickly these days.  When they’re little it feels like forever but once they get about 12 it just starts to fly by. I always thought I was so practical and logical minded.  I thought watching your kids grow up would be exciting and it was just a part of life, so deal with it.  But it has been completely different for me.  I actually get quite emotional thinking about it –  my little babies are growing up on me. I thank God that He has given my son a desire to serve Him…

One of AO’s suggestions for high school is Roar on the Other Side.  It is a book that is supposed to help beginning poets write poetry and to help them to see what "makes a poet worth reading." This book has NOT been an inspiration, nor a favorite.  Zachary, my 16yos’s, assignment a few weeks ago was this: "… choose a piece of fruit to eat (not an orange).  Write a journal entry of your own, describing the experience.  Use sensory details and words full of suggestion." This did not excite his imagination.  We had a peach in our fruit basket that he chose to write about.  Or tried to.  He…
