31 Days of Kitchen Inspiration
One of my favorite home-keeping jobs is working in the kitchen. Yes, I get in RUTS where I wonder what in the world I’m going to feed the family each day… times when I wonder just how many ways EGGS can be made for breakfast… and other days when I wish I had a kitchen fairy who would wave their wand and give me a CLEAN kitchen. Those are the negatives for me but the good things are I get to test the million and one recipes that are out there, make my family happy with a meal that’s not only good for them but tasty (this can be hit and miss:)), learn food presentation skills and practice organizational skills (love that!) 31…

A Fall Mantle
I stored all my Fall decorations in some Rubbermaid containers which made it nice and easy to know just where I had everything. Taking everything out of the box I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with my Fall Mantle but when I finished I was quite pleased with how it all turned out. I was at a rustic wedding recently (the wedding where Zachary played his cello at and then had the major car accident on his way home) anyways, at this wedding they mixed rustic and refined looks together. It gave me the idea to use this pretty little doiley on my rustic mantle. The doiley was handmade and…

Homeschooling the Young Child Who is Resistant
In response to my recent post titled Traditional Education – Is it Really the Best Way to Teach our Children?, Lily left a comment saying… “Very Interesting! I understand that all children are gifted in different areas, but for those who bulk at the basics at an early age, in spite of following Charlotte Mason style principles, what should one do? Should you keep trying different approaches, for example Dianne Craft’s techniques until something clicks? Up to this point, when one of my students has had difficulties, I have tried a dozen different curriculum choices, different learning style approaches, and lots of praying until I found something that worked or…

Hive Inspection – Pollen, Honey & a Bee Emerging From its Cell
A few days before Zachary’s accident, we went and checked on his bees. I’ve been taking care of them since he’s now working in Sierra Vista. I have to give them sugar syrup every day since Zachary purchased his bees after the nectar flow in the Spring. If you take all their honey, if there’s not a good nectar flow or if you miss it when you first buy your bees like we did, you have to give them food, or they’ll die. Both hives are doing well. Hive #1 had a lot of stores (food being stored up for hard times) and quite a bit of capped brood which means, bees…

A Life Spared
We never know what the next moment holds but we are so grateful that we serve a Living God who’s a very present help in time of trouble. Russell and I and Zachary were in Flagstaff for a wedding yesterday. Zachary had went up on Friday, driving Seth’s truck, since he was going to be playing his cello for the wedding. So, Saturday night, around 7:15 – 7:20 p.m. we were driving along back home. We were ahead of Zachary with 2 vehicles separating us. Russell is always watchful of anyone that is following us, so he was looking in his rear view mirror to see where Zachary was, when…
