Tell Me One More Story, Please
Thank you to those who took my short survey. It was very enlightening and interesting to see the results! Who doesn’t love a good story? At our last Castle Keepers meeting, one of our girls’ mother gave us pointers on how to tell a good story. It’s an interest of hers and she has several books on that topic alone. Who knew there were books just on that subject? Our teacher keeping our attention upon her story by using hands and plenty of voice inflections. As you can see the kids were quite engrossed. Each girl was to bring some type of story… even a personal family story worked. We…

Fairies Live Here – Making Fairy Gardens with the Castle Keeper Girls
I’ve always loved miniature things. When I was a little girl I had a dollhouse and it was more fun to see the small pieces of furniture than it was to actually play with. Then there are the American Girl dolls and all their accessories. So, so cute. I love miniature versions of their larger counterparts and that’s probably why I was so drawn to the idea of our Castle Keeper girls putting together a fairy garden for one of their monthly challenges. To put together their fairy garden they would need some type of container, soil, and small plants such as mosses, grass, alyssum or succulents… but they were…

A Fun and Creative Handicraft – Glass Etching
What a great time the Castle Keeper girls had yesterday. We learned the very simple but oh, so creative art of glass etching. If you’re looking for a simple activity that is sort of addicting, this could be it. I’m itching to get me a few pieces of glass to personalize. Some supplies you will need are: Etching Cream Vinyl Reusable Stencils (these are so neat!) Rubbing Alcohol Cotton Balls Popsicle sticks Step 1. Clean the surface that you want to etch using the cotton balls and rubbing alcohol. Step 2. Place stencil on surface. Step 3. Using popsicle stick place etching cream on stencil. You just want to…

The Pie Auction!
We planned, we worked and now it’s over. Our first end-of-the-year party for Castle Keepers. There were elements of it that were a little stressful and there are things I would change but in the end we had so much fun. The highlight of the evening to me was our pie auction. The girls were asked to make 2 pies. One to be judged by our secret judges and then served for dessert to our guests and the other one to be auctioned off with all proceeds going to Castle Keepers. We did not know if all the pies would sell. Would we have enough bidders? Would they even be…

Our Last Monthly Challenge for the 2013/2014 Year
Well our first year, 2013/2014, for our girls club is almost over all except for our end-of-the-year party. Our last monthly challenge is finishing up next week but since Serenity and Audrey have already completed it, I decided to share it with you. The challenge was to make another young mother a gift for her baby girl that was still to be born. (She has since had a healthy little one.) For those over 13, it had to be made by hand. If they were under 13, they could either make something or purchase store items but they were to present it creatively. Audrey chose to make these adorable onesie…
