• Peach Cobbler: Adapted for Using Home Canned Peaches

Zachary turned 19 years old last Saturday and we finally celebrated that momentous occasion by ending our evening meal with a Peach Cobbler.  Justus was the happy bearer of the birthday cobbler. I really like cobblers but so many times I find them to be overly sweet.  What I like about this recipe and the way I adapted it is that it is has just the right amount of sugar.  When looking at the recipe I thought it might not be sweet enough but I was wrong.  I found it to be just right.  If you have any peaches, canned in prior years, this is the recipe to use. Peach Cobbler adapted…

  • Christmas 2010

Well after going through about 1,000 photos (I kid you not.  Between my daughter and nieces they took over 1,000) I have managed to choose a few more than you probably care to see… The girls had their own private photo shoot Christmas morning and afternoon and evening.  (Just how did you think they managed to take over 1,000 photos?) 🙂 They have such good times when they get together. (they live 3 hours away) After we opened gifts, at least half of them being handmade…  (Handmade is the best, don’t you think?) (Cousins -Wesley and Enoch.) and signed socks… 🙂 the boys retired to their old bedroom, now turned playroom for…

  • Cranberry Parfaits

This week I’m linking up to Foodie Friday where you can find other great recipes. Sweet & tart are the flavors that greet your tastebuds when having this parfait. When thumbing through a cookbook I am always drawn to desserts with whipped cream and it was no different when I saw this one. Beautiful colors, light on the palate and easy to make. Cranberry Parfaits from Southern Living Ultimate Christmas Cookbook Prep: 22 min. 1 1/4 cups fresh or frozen cranberries 1/2 cup light corn syrup 1 teaspoon grated orange rind (I skipped this.) 1 cup whipping cream 1 cup sifted powdered sugar 1 1/2 cups sour cream 1/2 teaspoon…

  • The Unsuspecting Delights of Prickly Pear Fruit

Here in Arizona we have some really different plant life.  Take the prickly pear for instance… Would you like this in your front yard? Such a warm and welcoming demeanor it has, does it not?  It looks like how I feel on some days. 😀 Where are all the spines on this one? Around our house this is the kind we see. Deer enjoy its offerings… (Note:  Unfortunately, this picture is not representative of the size of bucks we see in our valley.  For quite a while the only buck that showed itself was one that had only one antler.  The other had been broken off.  Not a deer hunters…

  • Panna Cotta

I almost forgot to share this delicious recipe with you for panna cotta. If you’ll remember I made this last week for an Italian dinner I had with some friends. Since I promised you the recipe this week, I’m posting it in today.  Saturday.  I have been very busy this week shipping lots of books since my daughter was needing a break.  There was no time for morning blogging unfortunately! I had never made Panna Cotta before but I found this recipe by David Lebovitz who has a food blog called the same.  It looked simple but delicious and besides I’m always ready to try a new recipe.  So I did.  We drank this…
