A New Niece
Baby’s First Day Wonder of all wonderment! Momentous moment when small form First feels life in itself. When new eyes open wide On old, old world. When tiny hands handle air; Touch tenderness and love. When ears first wake to sound And silent lips find voice and food. Soon newly wakened baby wearies. World will keep. Being born is quite enough For one short day. Baby hands rest; Baby mouth yawns; Baby eyes close in sleep. (Poem by Mary Dawson Hughes) I’m here in Pennsylvania helping out my sister who just had a little baby girl. The night I was at home packing to fly here, along with…

It Happened This Weekend…
What happens when you hurriedly pack for the weekend because you’re going to special meetings in another town? You bring the baby’s play shoes but forget the church shoes; you bring your 3 year olds church shoes but forget his play shoes. After 6 kids you’d think…I’D HAVE IT TOGETHER!! While we’re at said special meetings Justus (age 3) went to the bathroom, locked the door and then couldn’t get out. At this church the bathrooms are in the foyer but there’s nothing separating the foyer from the sanctuary. Serenity was waiting for Justus to get out of the bathroom. My husband was wondering what was taking them so long and went…

Another Birthday This Month
On the heels of my birthday comes my son Zachary’s. He turned 15 this week. How do I describe Zachary? Adjectives that come to mind are active, humorous, playful, curious, courteous, talkative and friendly. (just to name a few) He would rather be outside than doing schoolwork, riding horses rather than quads, going on a trail ride and making "biscuits" over a camp fire rather than mom’s cooking on Saturday morning, concocting his own recipes rather than following a cookbook, eating something unusual rather than normal – and the list could go on. This boy is full of zest for life. He make things fun for the little kids and makes me laugh too, except…

Spoiling Me Royally
We got home from our camping trip on Monday night. On the plus side, there was no rain to speak of but unfortunately, the men did not bag any javelina AND my little girl Audrey was sick almost the entire time. She actually only started feeling back to her normal self the day we broke camp. Thursday was my birthday and oh, what a glorious day I had. I had told my husband on Wednesday that I wished we could go somewhere so that I could read to him. (Just this week I received in the mail Nourishing Traditions.) I so enjoy reading to him and bless his heart, he’s…

What Am I?
What strange creature these animals are – longish and flat like a pancake. They eat prickly pear cactus, spines and all. They are not pigs but look a lot alike. They have a strong family scent that helps keep the herd together. Weight: 40-50 pounds Lifespan: 15 years Offspring: 1-2 at a time Habitat: Desert with cacti, palo verde Diet: Cactus, seeds, roots, fruit My boys are going hunting for these JAVELINA; so this means another camping trip for the family. Rain is predicted. Camping & rain is a bad mix. I’m a hopin’ it won’t. Have a great weekend.
