What A Week!
I wonder if Doug Phillips imagined just how much time the Jamestown 400 Treasure Hunt would take. The hunt ends on Tuesday for which my family will be very thankful. I’m feeling rather tired after going to bed late and getting up early to try and work on clues. This past weekend we had a family visiting whose 11yo son wanted to take a ride on one of our horses. He hasn’t rode much. For some reason, the horse came to a stop from a trot right in the middle of the road (we think it’s because he was laying on the horses head). The boy went flying over its head and hit hard. …

Birthday Time for Justus
Look who turned 4 this week! This is the boy who locked himself in the church bathroom and couldn’t get out, and another time when he was procrastinating eating his broccoli, received a phone call that caused him to eat it up. During my recent trip to Pennsylvania, when he stayed home with his daddy and brothers, Russell came upstairs one day to find him with 2 eggs on the counter and the frying pan heating up. Having no mother around to take care of him I guess it was a matter of survival. He’s a fun little guy. I’m already thinking of how, not too long from now, I’ll be teaching him…

Adios to Part of the Farm
´The past 4 days was full of frenetic activity. Our 4 oldest children sold their 4-H animals. We had a steer, lamb and 2 pigs. Zachary and Serenity also showed their dogs. It’s great fun after having an animal for the last 3-6 months to take it to EXPO and sell. The 4-H volunteers do so much – they really put their all into it for the kids. It’s very well run and little extras to make things even better are always being added. At their community meeting they are each required to give a speech. Here is Wesley and Serenity giving theirs together. This is Serenity’s first year and she is…

A Harrowing Day
Yesterday (Sunday) was our 18th wedding anniversary. It doesn’t seem that long since we walked down the aisle together but here we are 18 years later with 6 wonderful children. The Lord certainly blessed my life when he gave me Russell. He has helped me in countless ways to grow as a person, has been a true Christian and an outstanding father. That afternoon we were faced with the realization of how quickly things can change. Russell was taking a nap and the rest of us were doing various things. Seth was in the Living Room reading a book and I was in the Library. I heard Seth’s feet repeatedly hitting…

Back from Vacation
I haven’t had much opportunity to blog since I arrived home from PA and LA. It’s time for an update! One morning in PA, Audrey was sitting in a high chair when I mentioned daddy. Totally out of the blue Audrey started crying – real tears! I don’t know if it had to do with me saying daddy or not but it seemed too coincidental. Later that morning I had Russell talk to her on the telephone. She was quite happy. After 10 days with my sister I flew, along with Serenity and Audrey, to Texas where my family picked me up and we traveled to Louisiana to a church camp. On…
