  • Virginia Here We Come

We are off!  After planning for several months our trip to the Jamestown, Yorktown, Williamsburg area in Virginia, we’re finally off!  We’re going to be part of the week-long celebration that Vision Forum has put together.  Afterwards we will be doing some touring on our own. I’ve been reading to the children a book I bought through Vision Forum called Stories of the Old Dominion by John Esten Cooke.  It was written in 1879 by Mr. Cooke to his two boys.  It is well written, very interesting and informative.  I definately recommend it. If you want to read more about our travels on this trip go to Lovin’ to Travel,…

  • TIIIMMBEERR!!

For the last several days Russell and the boys were lumberjacks.  The Forestry Service gave them permission to cut down certain trees that had dead tops.  I can just imagine their big evil grin excitement as they fired the chain saws up.  They cut down 20 Ponderosa pines that were about 70-100′ tall, yelling "TIMBER" as the trees fell.  Wesley got to chop the limbs off with his axe. They then cut the trees up into 12′ sections, loaded them onto a trailer and hauled them over to a saw mill to make lumber. They worked LONG days (one 15 hour day).  They were "the crew" from cutting down the trees, to hauling them,…

  • Remembering Our Fallen Soldiers

Today is Memorial Day, the day we honor those soldiers who have died in war.  I have had 5 uncles serve in the armed forces and 1 in the reserves.  My grandma’s 3 sons and one step-son served during the Vietnam war.  One son didn’t return. My mother relayed the story to me and, like most of us, time has dulled her memory of some of the exact details.  My Uncle Eugene was a tall man with curly auburn hair,  a great sense of humor, lighthearted and carefree.  As a lad of about 7 or 8 he sold newspapers to the neighbors, about 6 a day.  One day, Uncle Eugene went down to…

  • All Night, All Day, Angels Watching Over Me, My Lord

The last few days have proven quite eventful.  First, Zachary and Wesley went down to saddle up the horses for a ride when they heard noises in the bushes.  Upon investigating they found our dog Rosie with 10 puppies.  10 puppies!!  What are we going to do with 10 puppies??!!  Our nearest neighbor is 2 miles away so we thought we would be safe from straying males.  No deal.  One of the neighbors bird dogs came visiting, apparently.  The kids are really enjoying having them but there is the slight problem of  what are we going to do with 10 puppies?? After the excitement of the puppies the boys finally got…

  • Shhh! Don't Be Noisy – People Are Still Sleeping

Having wood floors in our house causes every sound to be magnified. So, not wanting to wake up anybody this morning, I thought to take off my shoes as I went down the hallway. One shoe slipped off with a thud. My other foot landed on top of the cast- off shoe causing me to lose my balance and making more noise. A minute later I heard a little voice (Audrey) saying, "Mommy?", signalling the beginning of another day in Timbuck2.
