Our Family

Our family life - daily life updates

  • Thanksgiving 2007

Where do I start?  The last week-and-a-half has been so full.  I’ll just try and hit the highlights of the last week.  My sister and her family arrived from Pennsylvania Sunday night.  My parents and oldest sister, along with her family, arrived on Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday, these three (Seth 17, Serenity 9, & Wesley 12)  went and served Thanksgiving dinner to the elderly.  This was part of their community service for 4-H but they always enjoy doing this.  The elderly are so sweet and happy to talk with the kids.  Seth(ds17) was asked to pray over the meal.  I thought that was wonderful that his light for Jesus shone so brightly that they felt free…

  • Our Not-So-Relaxing Sunday Afternoon Drive

What we had envisioned was not reality.  It happened like this.  Our daughter Serenity went home with my parents from hunting camp and spent a week with them.  The time came to go pick her up.  Zachary has his driving permit now as of  2 weeks ago, and decided it would be an excellent time to hone his driving skills.  My dear hubby thought it sounded quite nice to have a chauffeur.  Me and him could read and talk, maybe even watch a Reb Bradley video on our laptop.  I said, "Wait a minute!  He’s a newbie driver.  You have to keep a close eye on him."  I knew a video was out…

  • On to Sweeter Things

Now that you are thoroughly repulsed by the last post which showed our recent elk hunting trip with their carcases hanging in the tree, how about something sweet and lovely that will just make you laugh and melt at the same time.  Of course this reaction may have happened to me since the sweet and lovely had to do with my son.  But here, I’ll let you decide for yourself. On the return trip from the aforementioned elk hunting trip (did you really wanted to be reminded of that again?) Justus(4yo), as he was sitting next to me in the truck, looked at me and said, "Mommy, are you doing a good job child…

  • 2007 Elk Camp

Black in our nose, ears, hair, fingernails – every pore of our body.  That’s what we looked like these past few days.  We just returned from our elk hunt.  When we arrived at our camping spot – the same spot we camped last year – the Forestry Service was doing prescribed burns in the area.  We had smoky fires all around us.  At night you could actually see the flames.  It’s always dirty camping but with all the smoke in the air it made things worse.  What’s dirt to a little boy?  Serenity and her friend slept on this bunk-bed together.  Her friend taught her how to knit which thrilled Serenity.   There…

  • A Sandy Splashing Time

We were off on Monday for a 3 day getaway to Lake Powell – one of the most beautiful lakes.  I did take our Nature Journals along.  They weren’t overly excited about taking the time to sketch something but of course, looking back at their drawing they’ll be quite happy, I’m sure.  (I like to think positively.) Here was our home away from home for three days.  Don’t you love when you have all your sweethearts close-by at night? Our camp was set up at the base of this rock that Seth climbed.  Can you see the white speck at the top?  That’s him. A close-up. Zachary doing some fishing.   Does anyone…
