Days Slip Into Years – A 14th Birthday
Yesterday Justus turned 14. Fourteen years ago when he was born we didn’t know what to name him. My husband wanted one name, I wanted another and they were both somewhat similar – Justus or Judah. So the baby boy went about 4 days to a week without a name. I would lean over and talk to him in my mommy voice. You know the one I’m talking about – all syrupy and sing-song, alternating between calling him Justus and Judah hoping I would “feel” it. Judah felt too harsh and so Justus it was. He has been a remarkable son. I love his witty sense of humor, his inventors…

An Arizona Wedding Reception for the Newlyweds
After all the planning and cooking, it is done. Seth & Jessica were married in Canada in February and because most all of our friends didn’t get to come, we gave them an Arizona reception this past Saturday. I have to be honest. I was somewhat dreading it. I am not the most creative when it comes to food presentation and for past graduations that I’ve had in our backyard, I have depended upon my sister. This time she wasn’t here to help with the food table so I stressed a little until my daughter-in-law, Hannah stepped in. She’s very creative and I love her style so I can see…

One Young Man’s Venture into Rental Properties
In our family we have rental properties. Although it may sound glamorous, we don’t always buy the typical places that some would think of when considering a rental. We most often buy fixer uppers. Recently, my 21 year old son, Wesley purchased his very first fixer upper. What a Really Bad Fixer Upper Can Look Like The pictures I am going to show you are horrible, disgusting and totally uninspiring to those who might think they want to get into the rental market. I am not over exaggerating the case but this is probably just about the worst fixer upper we have ever bought. Sometimes your children can make a…

The VRBO Cabin Has Its Very First Guests
You may have been following along on our VRBO (vacation rental by owner) that we started around Thanksgiving last year. Read this post to see the beginning stages of the project. Then more progress was made with the interior. I realize now that I haven’t given you any more updates! Although it is not completely done it is so very close and the kids have had their very first guests. Let me show you a few pictures of how things are looking now. It’s a one bedroom cabin with a bathroom but there will be sliding barn doors that will be able to close in the bedroom when desired. That’s…

5 Reasons You Should Teach Your Children to Help With Chores
What a busy week last week was! Last week looked like this as these kids were put to work volunteered (actually, it was a little of both 🙂 ) to help me clean our abode. 😀 I told Justus to look tired or dramatic at different times depending on what pictures I was taking. This was his interpretation. Children are capable of so much but sometimes we want to protect them from being overworked and the results are kids that don’t know how to work, don’t like to work and feel entitled. In other words, we aren’t doing our children any favors when we do everything for…
