Welcome Home, Son – for Awhile
My son left home 3 1/2 months ago clean shaven; yesterday, when I picked him up at the airport, I received a big surprise! I don’t think it’s just for the hunting season either! It’s good to be together again. He’ll be here a week and then flying back to Ohio. Goodbye for now. We’re off to hunting camp…

Time for our Annual Elk Hunt
The elk hunting season is upon us and so the conversation at our house has centered around camping and hunting for the last few weeks. Wesley is trying to get his hunting gear in order. He was referred to a site called CamoFire and he faithfully checks it when he wakes up. They offer new deals on hunting gear at least once a day. If you have an avid hunter in the family, you might want to check it out. Seth is coming home from Ohio for the occasion. He’ll be here a week and then he returns to Ohio for about 3 weeks and then he’s coming home!! He had his…

Hunting Fever
About this time of year, hunting fever sets in. There are elk and deer hunts on the schedule in the upcoming months and just this past Friday antelope season started. Zachary was drawn for a unit that gave out only 4 tags and there was an average of 70 people who put in their name per tag. He was one of the lucky ones. He was fortunate enough to be blessed with an antelope opening day (September 4) which was wonderful since we had our Middle Ages Co-op on Saturday. This way he wasn’t being pulled in two directions. Did you know these facts about antelope? They have exceptional eyesight –…

Quick Trip to Boston
I’ve been somewhat distracted from writing lately due to other distractions. Just this past weekend Russell & I took a quick trip to Boston. There was a book show that we wanted to check out as a potential source for inventory for our online book business. Now maybe I can’t say definitively that Boston is not my kind of town since I was only there for about 4 days, but I sure was longing for home. Give me the wide open spaces, less noise and cleaner air. The people were quite friendly – friendlier than I think you would find Arizonans but what bothered me the most was the immorality. Everywhere you looked…

Goat Pen Construction
To do a little catching up on what’s been happening around the farm, here are some pictures of the latest building added. There are quite a few pictures, so if your browser is slow you’ll have to be patient. After losing about 5 goats to mountain lion attacks, Russell decided to make them an enclosed building that we could lock them into at night. The shelter was built using the leftover wood from our barn. Russell and the boys felled the trees themselves a few years ago and milled them – thus making their own lumber. I love this rustic look. These girls just had to see it up close. So much more fun.…
