Our family life - daily life updates

  • Week in Review 2/27/11 – 3/5/11

We had a birthday here this week. Mine, as a matter of fact. I had a very nice day.  For my birthday breakfast, Zachary prepared a delicious omelet, Russ bought me some flowers and Serenity did the rest.  She’s always so thoughtful to me.  Friends from the south arrived at our place and we gave them a taste of farm life here at the ranch… and showed them the beautiful grandeur of the Grand Canyon. Of course, there’s always music.  We even convinced Seth to pull out his banjo which had not seen the light of day for several years.  We figured he just needed a straw hat and a piece of…

  • Week in Review 2/20/11

The past week there’s been a little art…   a little hairstylin’ going on… (Audrey wanted my hair to look pretty, so she fixed it all up.) 🙂 (Uhhh, hmmm, please ignore the adverb poster that’s falling in the background.  It has now been rehung. 🙂 Oh, and the socks on the floor and… well why don’t you just go ahead and block out the whole background.  Thank you.  I’m much obliged!)   and a great opportunity to hear a mountain man talk…      where we got to see a beaver skull… (My finger shows where they carry sticks when they’re building their dams. And check out those incisors!))   and saw some containers that would…

A trip to California, visitors and a big book sale are a few of the things I’ve been up to the last few weeks.  I’ve been very inattentive to this blog, have I not? 🙂  This week we had the loveliest tea party.  Audrey (my 5yo) set it all up.  As you can see, Serenity bedecked herself with quite the finery. It’s always nice to be entertained so we were quite delighted to have this special entertainer show up at our little tea party. In other happenings of our household, the boys have embarked upon a rather exhausting exercise program. They found a Navy SEALS workout book and are attempting to…

  • Headed for the Antarctic with 80 Bags of Dryer Lint

My Justus, who is 7,  started collecting dryer lint.  He had a handful that he put into a 13 gallon garbage bag, so you can imagine it was basically empty.  After having it set around for several weeks, I tossed the lint and used the bag.  Well you know how it is.  As soon as you toss something, they think of it.  Of course that is what happened with Justus – he went looking for it.  I had to tell him that I had thrown it away and since I thought he wanted it to build fires I told him that he could always just go and get some out…

  • The Sweetness of Childhood

Just 1 1/2 weeks ago (it seems so much longer than that with all the traveling we’ve been doing) my niece Zoe came to visit for a few days.  One morning we decided to go to a place near our house for a picnic breakfast.  It was sunny but partly cloudy and just a bit on the cool side.  The sun had went behind the clouds for a few moments but when it came back out my husband said, “There’s the sunshine…” Audrey piped up and said… “Who?  Me?” We do call her Sunshine quite often – but not this time.  My husband reply was, “Well you’re a sunshine, too,…
