Family Life Updates 5/16/11 – 5/28/11
It’s Memorial Day weekend and I want to say thank you to all of those who have served in our military either in the past or now. We appreciate your sacrifice and the sacrifice of your families. Life has been kind of quiet around here. A kind of lull before I have to really get to work. There’s a young lady at our church who has asked me to cater her reception in July, so I’ve been doing lots of thinking about that and writing down any thoughts in my planner. Zachary, my 2nd oldest, is graduating from our homeschool high school in August and I am planning a big…

To Conquer or to be Conquered
48 miles was the planned hike – from the South Rim descend into the Canyon, ascend the North Rim, then start hiking back down into the Canyon for the final journey up to the South Rim where you first began. 48 miles round-trip 21,000 feet elevation change That was the plan… 9:30 p.m., Sunday night with a full moon. The bright moonlight softened the features of the Canyon into a glowing landscape. Deer went about on their nightly rituals while a little mouse sat watching them at the base of a prickly pear cactus. 5:30 a.m., Monday morning. Reaching Ribbon Falls, 16 miles into the trip, the decision to turn back was made. Seth’s knee was…

Week in Review 5/9 – 5/15/2011
Not too many pictures this week! My boys left Sunday night for a grueling adventure. They are attempting to hike the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim – a total of 48 miles. It will be an all night hike. They will start their hike at 9:30p.m. and will hike all night and all day and if all goes well, they will exit the Canyon 19 hours later. Fun??? To them… but hey they’re young men in their prime and want to CONQUER! We had a delightful suprise Sunday morning. My nephew called and said they were on their way to visit us. They met us at church and…

My Mother’s Day Tablescape
This past Sunday, I had the pleasure of doing a special Mother’s Day luncheon for my mom. She lives across the United States in Illinois and I have never been able to celebrate Mother’s Day with her since I was married 22 years ago. They were only going to be here for 2 days so I had to do it then or miss my opportunity and I sure didn’t want that to happen. I decided to use my wedding china – the only china I own. The pattern is La Rose by Mikasa. A photo from above. I actually forgot to take a close-up of the place setting last Sunday, so I…

Week in Review – 4/18 – 4/24/11
This week I tried my hand at making Feta Cheese with goat’s milk. We’re getting about 2 gallons of goats milk a day and were needing to get creative with it! We finally got around to making Resurrection Cookies. It’s a little late now but here’s a link to how you can make them. Next year, right? This picture represents Jesus being beaten. (I don’t think they’re supposed to be smiling at this. 🙂 ) Here they were tasting salt – representing the salty tears of Jesus’ followers after He died. Friday was our 22nd wedding anniversary. Russell brought home Chinese take-out (I made a meal for the kids &…
