  • My Girl Turns 14!

Serenity turned 14 today (Thanksgiving day).  I cannot tell you what a joy she has been to our home.  She’s so very sweet, helpful and completely unselfish.  Thank you, Lord for the blessing of Serenity Hope   A daughter is a day brightener and a heart warmer.  ~Author Unknown     A daughter is a little girl who grows up to be a friend.  ~Author Unknown

  • Our 2011 Thanksgiving Tablescape

Not counting the experiment in our Thanksgiving menu, 🙂 we had a lovely Thanksgiving celebration on Sunday. I used the table runner I made with some muslin, scraps of material and the kids’ handprints. Gobble, Gobble, Gobble   The centerpiece was simple.  I took the idea from Melissa at Life on the Farm – a candle setting in corn. I found the pinecones and other decorations on clearance at Wal-Mart. There’s my turkey plates that I got on clearance last year from World Market for $.69 each.  The red plates were being clearanced at Kmart a few years ago because of slight imperfections.  The napkins came from World Market.     The small cards…

  • Our Healthy Nourishing Traditions Thanksgiving Menu – The Results

So how did our healthy and nutritious menu turn out?  As you know, I was trying a lot of new dishes that were from Nourishing Traditions.  Here’s the complete run down on our meal. Turkey – Great! Onion Cranberry Compote – NT pg.392 (this was to replace the sugary cranberry relish I normally make and love!) This tasted very good by itself, but when I had it with my turkey, it just wasn’t the same as having the sweet/tart taste of cranberry relish.  You could definitely taste the onions. Mashed Potatoes (was going to make NT recipe on pg.401 but couldn’t find celery root at the store) – Great! Sweet Potato Puree –…

  • Cranberries, Onions & My Thanksgiving Table Runner

That was really cruel of me… to write a post about how we are killing ourselves with our white flour and sugar right on the brink of one of the biggest holidays of the year.  Really, I didn’t plan it that way, it just happened.  Promise. I started the food for our Thanksgiving meal yesterday.  I’m using mostly recipes from Nourishing Traditions and have never tried any of it before.  My family will love it, I’m sure. probably ban me from making anything ever from NT.  They’re good sports but I guess Thanksgiving’s like the sacred cow – you just don’t mess too much with tradition. I made the Onion…

  • A Simple Project and a Healthy Thanksgiving Menu

We’re celebrating Thanksgiving early.  As in 2 days from now.  It’s going to be a small affair, (just my little family) but we’re going to make some memories anyways! I’ve got plans to make this table runner that Frantically Simple made for her own family… And of course, I always get excited about the food. This year I’m going to do something different.  I’m going to make the majority of the meal using recipes from the book Nourishing Traditions.   Here’s the menu plan presently… (NT stands for Nourishing Traditions) Turkey Onion Cranberry Compote – NT pg.392 (this is to replace the sugary cranberry relish I normally make and love!) Mashed…
