  • The Outdoor Kitchens of Vanuatu – Part IV

The real reason for the trip to Vanuatu was a youth camp that our pastor had been asked to preach at.  Every day they were there, even before the youth camp started, they had church services, and that’s where the real conversations on a personal level occurred. The pictures I am posting of Vanuatu are with a focus on showing you the land and people. Chickens could be found everywhere, running around freely. Sometimes they roosted in a tree near the hut they stayed at. Zachary was very glad when supper consisted of a rooster.  Cock-a-doodle-do!!!   The kitchens were a bit more primitive than what we have here in…

  • Children, Road Construction Crews & Footwear in Vanuatu – Part III

Jesus loves the little children All the children of the world… Some of the precious children of Vanuatu Little children are some of Zachary’s favorite people.  I love the little ballerina pink dress this little girl is wearing.  She looks like a princess. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 19:14 Repairing the Roads Road Construction Crew A community effort and it looks like they’re all having a good time. There was a b-i-g pothole (you can see in the picture that it’s full of water) and the islanders were filling it with a clayey…

  • Coconut in its Raw Form – Part II

Continuing Zachary’s 10 day trip to Vanuatu… There was an abundant supply of fresh fruit everywhere, coconut, mango (not quite in season), papaya, and banana. Most of us have never seen a coconut except at the grocery store, so I thought you might find it interesting to see these different views of it. The coconut in its original form hanging on the tree. Then the machete does its work… And you let your teeth finish the job.                                                                  …

  • Ten Days in Vanuatu – Part I

Zachary is home as of Tuesday night. Yesterday, we got to spend 2 hours (yes, that was a 2) 🙂 looking at all 620 pictures while he narrated and read from his journal. This is the same boy who would have definitely been labeled if he had went to a public school and writing by hand was so very tiring for him. But here he kept a journal of his own accord. Never give up hope, mom’s! I want to share a part of Zachary’s trip with you all so I’ll be doing it in parts. I don’t know how many parts I’ll need, maybe only 3, but we’ll find out…

  • Where in the World is Vanuatu?

Across the Pacific Ocean, east of Australia, is the island nation Vanuatu.   And that’s where Zachary flew yesterday.  I really wanted to tell you how many miles away it is but Google Maps let me down.:( MILES Zachary was travelling with our pastor and another couple. He was really looking forward to this opportunity of going and meeting fellow Christian believers.  The people (I’m not sure what they call themselves.) are having their first ever youth meeting and our pastor has been asked to speak. I’m a little sketchy on all the details, but they’re landing in Port Vila and will be spending time on Pentecost Island and Ambrym Island.…
