Our family life - daily life updates

  • Good Times with Family

Thanksgiving 2013 has come and gone but the memories we do have remind us of how wonderful it is to have family and friends.  I am so thankful for God’s hand in my life and my family.  I am also so thankful for the family of God and that includes YOU! Thanksgiving this year was at my big sis’s house. Thanksgiving outdoors? Yes! It truly was warm enough.   Our Thankful Tree even showed up.    My niece made homemade marshmallows.  In the past I’ve wondered how they could be that different from packaged ones from the store but they really are! They are SO much better. Really good! …but…

  • A Non-Traditional Thanksgiving Meal

Thanksgiving – a wonderful time to be with family and depending on the year, some friends, too. This year (like last year), our oldest won’t be here. My oldest that has been spending half the year (it feels like) in the Great White North has once again left for a second year with helping some friends in their commercial ice fishing operation. (Click on the links to see some of his past trips – it’s pretty interesting) Zachary, who was married this past May won’t be with us on Thanksgiving either.  I may have to adopt the Canadian Thanksgiving just to have my whole family here.  Thanksgiving in October? –…

  • A Surprise Tea

The reason for my recent layover in Chicago O’Hare airport was because I was paying a visit to my mom and dad.  You see, since I married 24 years ago I have never went to visit them except with the family.  When my kids are small I always found it hard to leave them. But now that they can take of themselves and each other I didn’t feel so bad. 🙂 Mom and dad both have a birthday within a week of each other so I decided to celebrate with them and to take Justus with me for some mom/son time.  I was there a few days before my sister…

  • How to Look Like a Hick

I’m sitting here at the Chicago O’Hare airport feeling the eyeballs of many resting on us as we situate ourselves inside THE CLUB. We are in the United Club. We stepped through an automatic sliding door and entered a darkened area where two receptionists wait to see your card that will grant you access to THE CLUB. All around me are sitting businessmen with their smart phones and laptops and even a few glasses of wine are to be seen. How to look like a hick. Tip #1 – Take out your flip phone to make a call. This is guaranteed to make you look behind the times. But I…

  • Back from His Wilderness Adventure – My Son is Home!

Guess who’s back??? Yep, Seth is back… for a short while before he leaves on another work adventure. We got to look at his pictures – all 358 of them and it’s going to be hard narrowing them down for this post since there were so many magnificent scenery shots. He celebrated his 23rd birthday just before he left Canada for Arizona.  Another mom made his day special by baking and decorating him a cake.  Thanks, Sis. Vickie.  Seth was all the way in Toad River, BC, 2,500 miles away from home. To get to the area that he and his cousin would be guiding in, they trailed in with…
