Our 2nd grandson was born! Marrion Kenneth was born on December 28, 2019 weighing 8 pounds 2 1/2 ounces and measuring 20 1/2″ long.

Born to our oldest son Seth and his wife, Jessica, Marrion Kenneth was named after Seth’s grandpa who just happens to be my dad. My father is a very special man and at this point there are 4 grandchildren (including great-grandchildren) that bear some part of his name. Seth’s middle name is also Marrion!

Hope is quite happy with little brother.

Hello world! I’m feeling quite big and strong!

We got to go visit and meet little Marrion. It was a nice time!

Hope – 15 months
Proud grandma moment but Hope isn’t too interested. haha

While we were there Seth continued with his commercial ice fishing line. Audrey went out with him for 2 days on the ice. What a tough girl! Russell took me out to see them one day on the snowmobile; I took off my gloves to take a few pictures and in less than a minute my hands were hurting so bad. I don’t know he can work in such cold conditions and enjoy it but he does.

As the day went on and they warmed up, they were able to take the cold on their face.

The fish get caught in the net. They work the fish out of the net and then put the fish in tubs. Believe it or not, you do not want the fish to freeze, they need to be fresh, so the little sled behind Seth in the picture has a small heater to be sure they don’t freeze.

The nets are rolled up on these contraptions as the fish are pulled from the water.

(That little Star Wars figure you see on the left is just me. haha I wasn’t about to freeze my face off from removing the helmet.)

Sometimes you need a little break and this is where Audrey found it. Inside the little fishmobile on top of buckets of fish. 😀

It was time for us to head back to Arizona so of course, I had to get a few more photos.

Now it’s Seth and Jessica’s turn to try and get family pictures where everyone is looking. Oh my, do I ever remember those days!

The Reception – Part III https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/06/08/the-reception-part-iii/ https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/06/08/the-reception-part-iii/#comments Sat, 08 Jun 2019 20:44:19 +0000 http://treasuringthemoments.net/?p=706994 The wedding was over, some light refreshments had been offered to our guests, pictures taken and it was time for the reception to begin.

While the wedding was going on the people we had hired to serve the food were setting up the tables. Unfortunately, it was too breezy to do it any earlier; we were so thankful that they could do it. Some of the family stepped in and showed them how to set up each table so that was a blessing. We just couldn’t have done everything without the help of different ones! May they be blessed!

The bridal party table…
Table numbers were these little signs we had made. Pictures on the signs corresponded with the ages of Austin and Serenity. For example, table #10 had a picture of Austin and a picture of Serenity when they were 10 years old.

We were delighted to have some talented young friends of ours to entertain the guests with their beautiful music for quite a long while. It was lovely.

If you would like to hear some of their playing, you can go to this link. They are amazing and have won many awards.

The candy bar… made by Wesley

Oh my, the candy bar did not turn out so great because we couldn’t find the candy box and all we had was what you see! We had so much we were planning on putting out but alas, we just couldn’t locate it. I went several times during the reception to look for it and even for a few months after the wedding we couldn’t find it. It turns out that it was under our nose all along. Isn’t that the way it goes?

The wedding cake

My niece made the dulce de leche cheesecake. It was absolutely beautiful. We were so happy with her creation.

Dessert was a variety of cheesecakes.

Audrey had a funny speech prepared for the reception. She did a great job!

I also put together a slide show that we played at the wedding. Austin and Serenity had made a few humorous cooking videos that I incorporated. We still quote some of the things they said on these videos. haha

And there you have it. Part III of Austin & Serenity’s wedding. We made it folks! Thanks for hanging in there with me. You all deserve an award for that, I’m sure. 🙂

Austin’s cousins were the two junior bridesmaids.

Austin walked both of his grandmothers down the aisle.
My father-in-law being his usual friendly self. 🙂
My precious parents.
Walking down the aisle is not that easy for me but on this day it wasn’t too bad. I loved walking with my oldest son and maybe I didn’t have lots of time to speculate about it. It was just time to go.
The royal wave. haha
Austin did not want to see Serenity before she started down the aisle.

And then she was there…
The first look
treasuringthemoments.net
Such a bittersweet time for her daddy…
There’s just something about this picture… Austin taking Serenity’s hand and Russell in the background – he no longer is the main man in her life.

We raise our children for this very purpose but change is a very difficult thing. You realize that the time you had with your children was just not enough. In just a few years it’s past.

Pledging themselves to each other for life for better or for worse.
Our pastor who also dedicated Serenity when she was a baby.
Russell and our daughter-in-law, Hannah sang “Household of Faith”. This song was sung at our wedding as well as Zachary & Hannah’s. ♥
It thrills me that I had a son learn a musical instrument! We also had a close friend to play the violin.
Little Hope taking it all in after her royal ride in the wagon.
Zachary did the main part of the ceremony and I thought he did a wonderful job.
Cousins share a moment…
Austin and Serenity wrote their own vows to each other. It was beautiful.
All the grandparents and pastors present prayed a blessing over the couple. ♥
Austin and Serenity had a “unity tree”. Austin learned wood burning just to make this. On his property where they live now, there is a tree that they carved their initials into when they were dating.
After they closed the two parts of the unity tree, they locked it, put the key in the bottle and while on their honeymoon, they threw the bottle into the ocean. Oh, by the way, the M stands for Austin’s first name which is Michael.
Signing of the marriage license
“I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
But first a little breath freshener. 🙂 (Austin has a great sense of humor.)
Serenity didn’t want everyone seeing her first kiss, so only a few privileged few witnessed it. haha
Yes!

Wedding Elegance in a Rustic Setting – Part I https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/06/03/wedding-elegance-in-a-rustic-setting-part-i/ https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/06/03/wedding-elegance-in-a-rustic-setting-part-i/#comments Mon, 03 Jun 2019 17:00:42 +0000 http://treasuringthemoments.net/?p=706888 The morning of the wedding dawned with all the hustle and bustle of things that could only be done last minute but as I mentioned in this post Serenity and I were staying downstairs together, so we shared a very special moment that morning when I gave her a little note from me along with a bracelet that said “Faith”.

We then hurried to the field to do some set-up. One funny story that happened was the table that we had painted (you can see the girls working on it here) was set up the day before in the field and crazily enough a swarm of bees had taken up residence in there. Our son had taken the table and placed it upside down in the bushes, removed the drawers and generally tried to get the bees to move on. kkkkkkkkkk

There came a time where we had to go get ourselves ready. Serenity had thoughtfully purchased gifts for everyone in her wedding party as well as me and Austin’s mother. She wrote me the most precious note and once again I was in tears as I had been so many times when I contemplated the change that was coming to our family.

I had asked a friend to be my own personal hairdresser and boy did she have to go through it. She worked on my hair for quite a while but then I finally told her I didn’t like it and she was so calm, cool and collected about it and worked and worked with me tell I was happy. She’s the absolute best and I think it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made is having her as my hair stylist. Two weddings now!

Our friend designed the invitations and she put in one very unique and special touch….
An exact replica of the boat Serenity received her wedding proposal disguised as a leaf on the invitation.
This is a picture of the actual night Austin proposed to Serenity and the boat that was replicated in the invitations.
Serenity has always had a particular fondness for her grandmother and had told her that she wanted to wear her tiara that she had worn on her wedding day 60 years prior. It was a bit of a challenge to use it but I’m so glad she was able to incorporate it on her special day.

Leading up to the wedding site, our guests had to take a 2 mile dirt road. To help keep our guests from feeling like they were lost, I had made signs that we placed along the way so they would know they weren’t completely lost.

I don’t have pictures of all the signs going up the road. This is when I was working on them at my friends house.

I had so much fun making these signs.

Finally everything was was ready to go. One thing I must remember is some people like to show up early! It’s good to be done early enough so they don’t see all the work going on.

My friend helped make some amazing signs!
Guest book table
Date night ideas & advice table (You can tell this picture was not taken by the professional photographer. haha)
Family Tree ladder that we built out of scrap wood
Our granddaughter, Shalom.
Refreshments of popcorn and water were served up from here after the wedding ceremony.
And the wedding began with the cannon salute!

Part II coming….

Last Few Days of Wedding Preparations https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/05/29/last-few-days-of-wedding-preparations/ https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/05/29/last-few-days-of-wedding-preparations/#comments Thu, 30 May 2019 03:50:45 +0000 http://treasuringthemoments.net/?p=706837 It was less then a week before the wedding and the weather was bad. It was cold and we even had snow flurries. We had to bundle up in our jackets to work outside.

The worst day we looked out side and saw this…

treasuringthemoments.net
…a beautiful rainbow.

We’ve seen rainbows in our valley but not for a long time and this one was directly over where the wedding was going to be in just 5 days. How remarkable! A coincidence? I’m not so sure.

The weather warmed up from that day and the day of the wedding it was the warmest day in the whole week.

Typically there would be no cause to be concerned about the weather. After all it was the end of May and we were going into our hot season but the weather was being weird. So thankful that God took care of it all and the weather was just fine the day of the wedding!

Leading up to the wedding there were so many tasks to complete. Even though you can do a lot ahead of time there is plenty of last minute to-do’s.

treasuringthemoments.net
This girl, my sweet niece, was busy being a tree trimmer. She knocked on doors offering to trim eucalyptus trees. She collected it all and brought it up from where she lives 3 hours away for us to use! ♥

Serenity starting to decorate the wooden arch that her brother Seth built for the wedding.
The ironing of the tablecloths was tortuously long. Bless Abigail, Serenity’s cousin, for sticking with it forevvver!
Coffee trailer needed to be stocked with everything needed for the coffee drinks.
Wesley, having finished his coffee trailer renovation, was now working on completing a candy cart for the kids.
Serenity’s brother and a friend were kept quite busy doing miscellaneous jobs…. plenty of them.
This was a huge job – making fresh eucalyptus runners for every table.
Keeping the eucalyptus fresh by spraying them frequently.
This lady, who is like family, gave so much time to helping out the last few days.

Wedding area being set up.

We bought this piano at an estate sale for $500. We set it up and the piano tuner came and tuned it right in the field. We had to cover it up till near the time of the wedding to help it keep its tune.
A floral shop being operated in our garage. 😉
treasuringthemoments.net
Getting set set up for the backyard reception.

Then it was time for the rehearsal.

Waiting in anticipation and wishing it was wedding time already.

There was a lovely rehearsal meal..

…and then I’d like to say we all went home to bed but no, it was back to making garland for the tables. At this point I don’t remember what time everyone went to bed but we had a house full of guests. A treasured memory is me and Serenity spending the last few nights sleeping together in our guest apartment downstairs talking over her future having some mother daughter talks. ♥

We simply could not have done what we did without so much help. It was a tremendous blessing. God bless each one!

Celebrating the Big 16 https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/05/01/celebrating-the-big-16/ https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/05/01/celebrating-the-big-16/#comments Wed, 01 May 2019 16:30:18 +0000 http://treasuringthemoments.net/?p=706758 Sixteen. Do you remember when you were turning that age? Oh, how grown-up we felt.

Justus turned 16 this past April and I decided to throw him a surprise party. He had no idea because even I had no idea until a few days before! haha

On his birthday we had a birthday supper for him but this was something different and it was a complete surprise.

We did have a few glitches but what surprise party doesn’t?! Everyone was supposed to be here but there were two guests that hadn’t arrived. They were busy having a little too much “fun” on our dirt road and had had a little accident. My son, Seth had to go meet them to see if he could move the car and pick up the boys. Unfortunately there were two flat tires and the car couldn’t go anywhere.

In the meantime, Justus and my hubby was supposed to be coming up the road. I had to call and send them on a goose chase. It was a totally believable errand. That bought us the time we needed to get the boys to the house. We knew our son would recognize the car and thought all was lost but whew! he saw there was a dent in the side and some other things so he thought it was someone else’s vehicle. Saved!

Wow, what a surprise he had. So glad we were able to pull it off!

In the Middle of Wedding Planning Came the 4-H EXPO https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/04/29/in-the-middle-of-wedding-planning-came-the-4-h-expo/ https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/04/29/in-the-middle-of-wedding-planning-came-the-4-h-expo/#respond Tue, 30 Apr 2019 03:37:54 +0000 http://treasuringthemoments.net/?p=706693 Oh dear! Our platters were full enough but then it was the 4-H EXPO week and time for Justus and Audrey to show their pigs.

It’s a 3 day event. First day is the show. They show and are judged in two different classes. One for confirmation and one for showmanship. The second day other animals like steers, lambs, goats & small stock are being judged and the pigs get the day off. The auction, where all the animals are sold, occurs on the third day.

Signs had to be put up.

Keeping the walkway clean is a never ending job. There is an herdmanship award given to the club that is the most helpful, keeps walkways clean and has pen signs complete and hung.
Washing your pig is very important. Pigs are pros at getting dirty!

This year they did something fun on the show days to get the spectators involved. You could pay $5 and volunteer someone to show a pig or steer. If the person really didn’t want to do it, they could pay $10 to get out of it. 🙂

We had a friend visiting from New York that was volunteered. haha
I was volunteered too and I can tell you that it’s a little easier for me to tell my kids how it’s supposed to be done than it was for me to actually do it!

Austin was here visiting Serenity and some sneaky somebody volunteered both of them for the steer show. Austin had never shown a steer before and felt pretty lost.

Serenity was wearing sandals so she quickly had to borrow someone’s boots.
Serenity had raised a steer before and she did such a great job that she won. Yay!
Ruth and our little granddaughter, Hope.
The judge asking Justus some questions about cuts of meat, etc.

In addition to how well they show their pig, they are judged on their knowledge of pigs. Questions can be about where to find certain cuts of meat, the confirmation of the pig and it’s weak and strong points as well as other things.

The kids didn’t win any prizes but they still did fairly well in showmanship. Maybe next year. Another year of 4-H in the books and back to wedding planning. haha

Refinishing a Few Furniture Pieces for an Outdoor Wedding https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/04/24/refinishing-a-few-furniture-pieces-for-an-outdoor-wedding/ https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/04/24/refinishing-a-few-furniture-pieces-for-an-outdoor-wedding/#comments Thu, 25 Apr 2019 01:49:59 +0000 http://treasuringthemoments.net/?p=706684 We had settled on the location for our daughter’s wedding. It was going to be in a field adjacent to our home. This meant we had to supply everything! Every single bit of furniture we would need.

treasuringthemoments.net
We needed a guest book table and we found this one through an ad on Craigslist. This wasn’t the piece that was advertised but when we got there, the lady had all kinds of furniture. She liked to buy, refinish and then resell. Her husband didn’t seem too happy about all the space she needed for her hobby but that’s another story. We found this, the price was right and it came home with us.
treasuringthemoments.net
First the girls used a palm sander to rough up the finish. Then they applied chalk paint.
treasuringthemoments.net
We then practiced styling the guestbook table for how we’d want it to look the day of the wedding. We didn’t use several of the items you see but it gave us an idea of what we needed to do to complete the look we wanted, as well as the height we needed for different items. We then took this picture so that we could recreate it the day of the wedding.
Serenity also wanted to include a place where her guests could write marriage advice and date night ideas. We found this desk at Goodwill and did the same thing with it as we had with the guest book table – sanding it down and painting it with chalk paint.
treasuringthemoments.net
We practiced styling it. Like the desk above, we didn’t use some of the things that are displayed here the day of the wedding, we replaced a few items – namely the “Be Kind” sign. As you can see in this photo we had not put on the drawer pulls yet.

treasuringthemoments.net
I guess I didn’t take any before photos of the wagon but it was a red wooden wagon. Serenity sanded it down and then stained the wood. It turned out so nice! We practiced putting in different size pillows because we had two precious little ones that were going to be riding in it over bumpy terrain and we didn’t want anyone to get bruised or banged up. 🙂 We ended up using some small pillows that I had and then we purchased a little one at Goodwill and then we made slipcovers for all of them out of painters drop cloth that we purchased at Harbor Freight.

We were making progress. It felt good. We tried to accomplish a little something everyday, otherwise I’d get a nervous twitch thinking of all the details that needed to be done!

An Unforgettable 50th Birthday Celebration https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/03/05/an-unforgettable-50th-birthday-celebration/ https://treasuringthemoments.net/2019/03/05/an-unforgettable-50th-birthday-celebration/#comments Tue, 05 Mar 2019 16:20:52 +0000 http://treasuringthemoments.net/?p=706526 Just this week I turned the Big 5-0. Half a century old. The Golden Jubilee Birthday. I don’t feel as old as it all sounds and it just seems incredible to think about all the years that are behind me now.

I was spoiled royally this year with 3 different birthday celebrations and even now as I write this, I am on a getaway with my hubby in Sedona. What a blessing to have such thoughtful people in my life that would do these things for me.

I’ve been contemplating writing a letter that someday my children might be given. A letter that expresses the many ways I’ve seen God at work in my life and family. Somehow I just think I need to commemorate this occasion with reflections on the past and maybe even some of the present. Have any of you ever done this? What are your recommendations for a letter like this?

My birthday morning started off with a lovely breakfast with my mother-in-law and sisters-in-laws.

While I was enjoying my breakfast, my daughter Serenity and her fiance Austin were working on a fancy meal for that evening.

Homemade artisan bread

Menus & cute napkin folds and name cards with little sprigs of rosemary tucked in.

The table was moved to the living room for the occasion.
The meal was delectable and ended with Creme Brulee – my favorite! If you’ve never made Creme Brulee, to carmelize the top you either use the broiler or a torch. Pretty strange, eh?
Our chefs for the evening taking a well deserved break before we played a few games which included the Shoe Game. We didn’t win but was almost in last place. My sister and her husband had the honor of being in last place. haha
Our guests for the evening.

Our family sans two of our boys who were gone skiing.

The 3rd birthday celebration was a surprise and it was almost pulled off but in the last few minutes before we arrived at our destination, I started sensing something was very fishy.

My church ladies hosted a birthday brunch the next day. It was so very special and beautifully done.

Isn’t this a cute idea how they took 2 plastic tablecloths and made it look fancy by knotting it at the bottom?

All the glasses were made by one my church friends.
Another friend decorated the cake in one of my favorite colors. It’s so beautiful

Birthday celebrations that I will never forget. It makes me realize once again how we always should try and brighten someone’s day.

And if there happens to be someone among us who has never did that, tried to live for somebody else, give that a try, and just see how much more life holds for you when you will not live for what you can get yourself out of life but what you can give someone else in life. And you’ll find that it’s more blessed than riches or anything of…that can be thought of. Is what you can do for someone else to make life’s burdens…Which, life in itself is a burden. And it will make it a little lighter for someone else. You just don’t know the joy unless you’ve tried it once, to do something for someone else. –William Branham
