• A Christmas Vignette using Natural Materials and White Elements

I’m joining up with Rhoda at Southern Hospitality with a Christmas vignette. The other day you got a sneak peak when I showed you my candles covered with music. My inspiration for my Christmas vignette came from wanting to use natural materials and white elements. Here’s how I did it after playing around with the whole thing for a while. I started with laying a piece of folded burlap and then placed little white lights underneath the fabric.   Then I just started adding things I had on hand. These little elephants are from a trip my husband took to Africa before we were married. The smallest white one is…

  • My 2012 Winter Mantle

This mantle was so much fun for me to put together.  I had NO idea what I wanted to do when I started but after I finished my bookcase vignette (you’ll see it in a later post), I had an idea of doing the mantle in a vintage look. The finished mantle sort of reminds me of something you might see at Cracker Barrel. I’m loving it. I used a collection of old cooking pieces I had purchased years. The shutter on the left was salvaged several years ago from our wood pile to be burned. I sanded it a bit to make it more distressed and now it’s a…

  • Spring Mantle – 2012

Today is the 1st day of Spring and here was the view out my window this morning… Being Arizona this is not a common sight in Spring!  But since it is Arizona, the snow doesn’t stay around long. Over Sunday and Monday we got about 12″ of snow.  So much fun… It seems I just put up my Winter Mantle   but here it is Spring already.  I like how God has the different seasons.  Each one has its own kind of specialness. So here is my mantle welcoming Spring. It seems I always have old books on my mantle.  The bird is sitting on a 1×2 piece of wood that I took and glued moss onto. The orchid…

  • Decorating the Boys Bedroom – A Reading Corner

Back in February I talked about doing some decorating in my boys’ bedroom.  My boys’ bedroom I’ll tell you about in another post sometime but today I want to show you what I did with my From Pallet to Flag projects. This picture served as inspiration… although my area is nowhere near as big. Source: habituallychic.blogspot.com via Elisabeth on Pinterest  I decided to make a reading corner. I had planned to put my flags in another area but it just wasn’t working for me, so I fit them here in the reading corner. (In case you missed my reasoning for a Canadian flag here, it’s because my boys are dual citizens.)  …

  • More Peeks in My Laundry Room

Okay, today I’m going to show you a little change we did in my sewing nook. Here’s the before picture. And here’s the after. Do you see the difference? Notice the cord from the light.  Doesn’t it look sooo much better?  What a difference! I also received a small little package in the mail this week from my sister with my finished curtain, lined and all.  It’s really hard to get good pictures in that laundry room but the colors in the curtain are a bright pattern and contrast nicely with the black/taupe color of the laundry room.  I changed out my button jars that sit on the window sill…
