• Poetry Challenged Boys

One of AO’s suggestions for high school is Roar on the Other Side.  It is a book that is supposed to help beginning poets write poetry and to help them to see what "makes a poet worth reading." This book has NOT been an inspiration, nor a favorite.  Zachary, my 16yos’s, assignment a few weeks ago was this: "… choose a piece of fruit to eat (not an orange).  Write a journal entry of your own, describing the experience.  Use sensory details and words full of suggestion." This did not excite his imagination.  We had a peach in our fruit basket that he chose to write about.  Or tried to.  He…

  • A Belated Birthday

If you think you might be a little behind  – how about a birthday celebration 6 months late? My second oldest, Zachary, turned 16 back in March.  We had company at the time and figured we’d do something special later.  Okay, fine.  But 6 months later?  Yep. My friend invited us to go on a camping trip with their church up in the high country.  We decided to let Zachary make the decision whether we went there or someplace else since this was going to be his special birthday weekend – finally.  Zachary thought it sounded like a plan and after much tearing around, grocery shopping, packing, taking my son to college, going to…

  • Beekeeping – Not for Long!

A bevy of bees showed up in our front yard… Much to Zachary’s delight who had already collected a few discarded bee hive boxes.    Not having a bee suit presented little problem for Zachary.  In this outfit heat stroke was a greater threat than any bee sting could ever be.    But then kind Uncle A loaned him a complete suit, along with some supplies. But you know what?  Those ungrateful bees have absconded with their loaded honeybags. Next time?  Well, Zachary has prepared himself and is quite ready for the little apis mellifera’s. • We're in Our New Church!

After meeting in a senior citizen center/bingo hall for 3 1/2 years this Sunday we had our first service in our new church building!  Construction on our new church took a little over 6 months, but of course the planning was a lot longer then that.  What an exciting Sunday it was for everyone.  Of course, I had to take the camera to get some shots.  Well Seth became the official photographer since I was busy playing the piano and Russell was leading songs.  I got such a laugh when my dd showed me this picture this morning. Is he fixing to karate chop the pulpit?    Aren’t these girls adorable? Copyright 2008 Treasuring the Moments

  • Two Weeks of College Completed

Two weeks down of college for Seth. It hasn’t been too bad either. The class that has been the most challenging so far has been Spanish. On the first day his teacher walked in speaking Spanish and never quit for about 5 minutes. Seth was completely lost. At one point the teacher was saying that he would promote the students to a higher level of Spanish if they could show him they knew enough of it. Seth somehow got confused as the teacher was giving times and dates so he leaned over and asked the boy next to him (who was Hispanic) about it. The boy replied, “Don’t worry, you…
