• Americal Girl Skirt Look-Alike

Serenity so impressed me last week when she made a skirt for Audrey, using an American Girl doll skirt as her inspiration.  She used left-over material from a jean skirt she had made for herself.   You can’t see it in this picture but on the doll’s skirt, hidden behind that fold is an embroidered heart.   So Serenity embroidered one on Audrey’s skirt.   Audrey posed like this on her own.  These kinds of things come so natural for a girl.  It just makes me smile.   Good job, Serenity. I’m proud of you!! I’m also linking up with Tackle It Tuesday.

  • Wing Clipping Chickens

A month ago we enlarged the chicken coop.  The chicks and the hens are quite happy with the set-up, having plenty of room to scratch around for poor hapless insects.  But there was one who would not be content and who became clever to the fact that she could fly out whenever she so pleased.  Life on this earth would not have had a happy ending for the little black hen if our dogs would have found her before I did on 3 separate occasions.  Clearly something had to be done.  That something was to clip the wing of the chicken. I enlisted my resident farm hand, Zachary, to assist me in the task.…

  • Gnocchi with Quattro Formaggi

Do not be turned away from this dish by its name.  Even though it sounds like it could be a very complicated dish, it really isn’t.  I wasn’t sure what quattro formaggi meant so I had to look it up.  A simple translation is “4 cheeses” and usually it refers to these cheeses: fontina, gorgonzola, parmesan & mozzarella. The sauce in this recipe uses ricotta instead of mozzarella.  The sauce is divine, if sharp and flavorful are some of your favorite ways to describe cheese.  Combine that with gnocchi, a very mild  potato dumpling and you have a keeper.  Keep in mind that this recipe uses cheeses that will cost more than typical cheeses. Gnocchi…

  • My Mother’s Day Tablescape

This past Sunday, I had the pleasure of doing a special Mother’s Day luncheon for my mom.  She lives across the United States in Illinois and I have never been able to celebrate Mother’s Day with her since I was married 22 years ago.  They were only going to be here for 2 days so I had to do it then or miss my opportunity and I sure didn’t want that to happen. I decided to use my wedding china – the only china I own. The pattern is La Rose by Mikasa. A photo from above. I actually forgot to take a close-up of the place setting last Sunday, so I…

  • Monthly Menu Plan for May – Sign Up Below w/ Your Link

I’m joining up with I’m an Organizing Junkie with this monthly menu. I’m a little under the weather as I type this – also had my parents here this weekend so I’m running behind on getting my May menu up. April was the first time I tried writing up a menu for the whole month.  Previously, I just wasn’t interested.  Well that mindset has completely changed.  I’m LOVING it.  Having an assigned day for certain types of foods simplifies the choosing of recipes.  Elk on Monday, Italian on Tuesday, Hamburger meat on Wednesday and so on.  You can read about it here in my post called Monthly Menu Plan for April…
