Putting Our Vehicles Through All Kinds of Tests
Finally we reached a decision on what outing we wanted to do with some young people that were staying at our place. We had headed out the door, leaving behind our 4WD Open-top Blazer that is sitting in a sad state since it is not working properly at the moment. I don’t know exactly what’s wrong with it but it’s something rather serious like the steering wheel shaft is broken. Yeah, not so good.
So off we go in 2 trucks.
Less than 2 miles from our house, Seth’s ball joint on the axle broke. The whole axle fell – plop! – right in the middle of the road.
It took some effort to get it out of the way.
Ready to get on the road again with a different truck.
Traveling dusty and bumpy dirt roads we successfully navigated 4WD trails without 4WD and finally arrived at the top of the mountain. But wait! What was the smoke pouring out from under the hood?
…and while we hiked to the top of the mountain, one stayed behind (my hubby) to repair the hose. You have to remember civilization is nowhere around, so if we get stuck, we’re stuck. It’s good to take a mechanic with you on these excursions. 🙂

These newlyweds built an inuksuk.
My son and his wife. They’ll have been married 1 year in February.
We had us a little tailgate supper of soup. I had prepared it ahead of time and it was quite hot when we packed it into an ice chest with towels around it. Also, it had a pretty tight lid on the pot so there wasn’t a whole of spillage that went on. It worked out pretty nicely.
A little mine exploring for the not faint of heart which would not include me.
And thankfully, even though there could have been some other auto issues, we all made it back home that night with more stories, more memories and plenty of reasons to be thankful for mechanics.
