A Pondless Water Feature for the Backyard

A big project for our backyard has been the addition of a pondless water feature. This was something we had considered doing but then almost didn’t bother with it but a friend of ours was here who works for a company that does these things and encouraged us to do it. With a few pointers from the boss and lots of help from our friend, it is now mostly completed.

I was a little unsure about how it was going to look when it was still in progress because it looked like a big jumble of rocks but after switching out some rocks, adding others, it all started to come together. When the plants were added, that really helped.

You first have to envision how you are going to lay the waterfall out on the hillside and then you just start placing rocks. This means you have to have rocks and they started by collecting rocks from around our place which is not difficult since we live on a rock pile here in Arizona.

And with these rocks, the water feature was started.

Micah (on the left) is the one who has had some experience with water features, so we just did what he said…

but we did have some suggestions to add now and again!

No one suffered any injury in the making of this water feature.  Whew! So thankful as these were heavy rocks they had to wrestle with.treasuring the moments.net

Once an area was chosen for a rock, they placed it using the backhoe.

There were leaks that had to be fixed, the rocks had to be glued in place, even the small ones. It took hours and hours, days and days to get everything how they wanted.

I have my fingers crossed that all these plants will survive.

It can be discouraging trying to grow something here in Arizona!

The water feature in our backyard is now mostly complete and the sound they make is exactly like a mountain waterfall. I love it!

I purposely didn’t scan the camera to take in the final area that the water goes into because it’s still a work in progress, but I wanted to give you an update on what’s been done in the last week.
