Sometimes It’s the Little Things…
Although there were many things that needed my attention, I had to rely completely upon my husband and children to help me for the last few weeks.
For several days, I couldn’t move around much and then other days, I was unable to do the simplest of things like empty my dishwasher because bending over would bring on dizziness and nausea.
Vertigo – the state of feeling like everything is spinning, which causes nausea and a loss of balance. That is what I have been experiencing for most of the last 2 weeks. It was not fun, I can tell you. I went to bed perfectly fine one night and the next morning when I sat up in bed I fell over because of the loss of balance you experience when things are spinning. Then I had nausea all day long unless I stayed very still.
I did learn that, for me at least, sitting up is much preferable to lying down. Something about sitting up after being on my side all night was intensely nauseating.
- Tip #1 – When sleeping, have lots of pillows behind you so that you are half sitting up.
- Tip #2 – Pretzels are helpful in settling the stomach.
There are a few different types of Vertigo. I experienced Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo which is caused when crystals that are normally in the ear get broke off and become displaced in the ear canal, causing dizziness and loss of balance.

Laundry & Ironing
That’s all I can think of at the moment because that’s what I’ve been doing every chance I have felt well enough. I think almost every bit of clothing that could possibly need ironed was awaiting me.
But you know, when even the simplest of tasks are taken from us and we are reduced to nothing, we tend to be more thankful when we can get back to them. And that’s exactly how I feel. It’s a blessing, ladies to have the health to be able to tidy our house and accomplish what needs to be done. Every day that we feel well enough to do any task is a day we can be thankful.
Today I’m looking forward to more ironing – yes! I’m starting to see light at the end of the tunnel!! Cleaning… Preparing a meal for family who are coming to visit… and watching the view outside my window. It’s a winter wonderland today.
My tip for the day…. Remember to enjoy the little and big things that are yours to do today. 🙂

So sorry to hear you went through that…yes as much as our daily chores can seem monotonous at times , I have come to realize too that I would much prefer them as to being sick. Praying for a complete healing! Take care of yourself!

Sorry you went through all that, Elisabeth. Glad you’re better. I do know how it feels to finally be back in command of home when been down or out awhile and certainly can feel and be glad for you there. Nothing like keeping the home…a real delight.
Hope you got to have fun in that snow. We haven’t been getting that much this year. I miss seeing it, but glad with all the extra driving that the Lord has been gracious in giving us a break this year. God bless you all…we miss you!
