The Castle Keepers and Castle Defenders Learn Some Tae-kwon-do Techniques
Why would anyone have chocolate covered espresso beans sitting right next to their computer if they didn’t want to be tempted, I have no idea.
And I have succumbed to the temptation. They’re a little weird tasting but addicting and I’ve popped several into my mouth since I gave in.
Sigh.
Heed my warning and don’t, seriously(!) don’t place anything chocolate within arm’s reach 15′, 30′, 50′ of you if you really don’t want to eat it. You’ve been warned!
But if you do not listen you may want to try and make up for it by getting outside and practicing some Tae-kwon-do moves. Huh, you say?
That’s exactly what our Castle Keepers and Castle Defenders did this month. They learned some Tae-kwon-do defense moves. It was a pretty awesome class and the girls had a lot of fun.
Since there was no way to learn everything in one day, even if they are smart girls, you know!, they focused on learning techniques for how to get out of a potentially dangerous situation.
First thing they did were some exercises to loosen up.
Then came the moves. Trying to remember what to do and doing it the correct way did get a little confusing.
The CK girls and boys learned how to bring their arms up across their face and to use it as a block, as in this situation. The instructor diverted the blow from the pole by using a block.
Practicing Snap Kicks
Showing what happens if someone were to try kicking their attacker with a high kick and how ineffective that method of attack is. The better way is to kick their knee from the side.
They learned how to get someone to turn loose of their hold on you by doing a thumb push, clapping hands over their ears (all while yelling) and the move you can make if someone should grab your shoulder.
The girls loved the class.
Never underestimate what fingers scraping down down someone’s face can do… of course, all while screaming.
Many of the techniques taught to the girls were techniques that would buy them time to get away from an attacker.
How to break free if someone grabs your shirt.
Anything you can put your hands on can become a weapon.
Remember all these techniques are just to buy time. A girl may not be able to overpower their attacker but they may be able to buy themselves just enough time to get away. When executing the move on an attacker, it is emphasized that you should always be yelling – usually some Korean attack word. It causes a shock effect and is all part of getting that one second you need to break loose and get away.
