The January Challenge for the Castle Keeper Girls
I recently realized that I have not shared what January’s challenge was for our Castle Keepers. It was to make a tabletop vignette and they had 1 month to complete the challenge.
This month I would like you to make a Tabletop Vignette (pronounced ‘vin-ˈyet’). Here’s what you will do.
1. Pick any area in your home that has a flat surface – a nightstand, dresser, coffee table, fireplace mantle, etc.
2. Clear EVERYTHING off. Start with a blank slate.
3. Then shop your house and the great outdoors for items to put on your wall or table.
I gave them a few tips to consider when putting together their vignette.
1. Choose an object that will be your anchor point around which everything else centers. It will be something that dominates the space and gives height to your arrangement.
2. Add layers, starting from the back to the front. For example, larger pictures in the back (it can even be hanging on the wall) and smaller ones in the front. Layering can also be stacking, such as books with a small vase on top.
3. Different heights and sizes. You do not want everything on your vignette to be the same height, nor the same size. It wouldn’t look right. Mix it up.
4. Use a variety of objects, textures, styles.
5. Don’t use an even amount of objects. Things look better when displayed in odd numbers. Use 5 objects instead of 4, for example.
Play with your vignette until you get it just how you like it.
And here was Serenity’s vignette. She thought the wall was too stark, so she went and found these boards and nailed them together.
