Yes, you could use boxes but what I like about the 2×4’s are they are almost exactly the same width as the cans. Because of this, you are able to utilize more shelf space.

I never thought about the wood, and your pantry looks fabulous! I did the same thing with my spices, only I used boxes (as the spices were light enough to where I could use empty sandwich bag boxes.) I’ll have to remember that, and yes, I’d love to hear something on an organized refrigerator! Or perhaps how to keep pots and pans or storage bowls organized (especially their lids!)
