My kids do the funniest things too with birthdays. I'm still providing a present for them to give to their sibling, but they want to do there own. My then four year old, gave her sister about 4 "presents" at my seven year olds birthday – things like make pretend bracelets (that they already had in their toys). Funny thing is my seven year old just laughed and laughed. She loved it.

That looks like a really wonderful trip. Especially the canoe-ing. It looks like you have a wonderful family, complete with hand me downs.
