Our Family

A Belated Birthday

If you think you might be a little behind  – how about a birthday celebration 6 months late?

My second oldest, Zachary, turned 16 back in March.  We had company at the time and figured we’d do something special later.  Okay, fine.  But 6 months later?  Yep.

My friend invited us to go on a camping trip with their church up in the high country.  We decided to let Zachary make the decision whether we went there or someplace else since this was going to be his special birthday weekend – finally.  Zachary thought it sounded like a plan and after much tearing around, grocery shopping, packing, taking my son to college, going to a baby shower, we were off.  Just like that. (snap of the fingers)  We arrived at Hawley Lake early in the day – uhh hmmm – 2 o’clock in the morning.

After a few hours rest, the day started off with fishing and hiking (for the boys that is).  Then about mid-morning the troops arrived for some nourishment.

Zachary opened up his gifts and found to his astonishment, a large sum of money given to him by his 2yo sister and 5yo brother.  (play money)

Did you notice Audrey’s shirt?  This is what happens when you have 6 kids and hand-me-downs.  You get to wear whatever mom can find even if it is footballs and soccer balls.  I hope she’s not traumatized by this.

What beautiful country there is to be found in Arizona.  Hawley Lake is at about 8,000 feet and is a part of the Apache Reservation.

Canoeing was such fun.  Quiet and yet a pretty quick form of transportation.  One morning we rowed from our campsite in the woods to the cabins where everyone else was staying.  I felt like an Indian as we glided through the water.

This little feller put in a lot of hours fishing.  He wasn’t too successful but he sure did enjoy it.

It was a good weekend although I was somewhat anxious to get back since I had a lot of laundry/housework to do.  Just last weekend I had about 130 people at my house for an Appreciation BBQ and company all week until the day we left.

Laundry is what I’ll be doing today.  If I don’t, little Audrey won’t even have football and soccer shirts to choose from.

The lake looks so beautiful! It's been a long time since I've been canoeing. Looks like you all had a wonderful time.

    Have a good week!

The play money is too funny. My kids do the funniest things too with birthdays. I'm still providing a present for them to give to their sibling, but they want to do there own. My then four year old, gave her sister about 4 "presents" at my seven year olds birthday – things like make pretend bracelets (that they already had in their toys). Funny thing is my seven year old just laughed and laughed. She loved it.

That looks like a really wonderful trip. Especially the canoe-ing. It looks like you have a wonderful family, complete with hand me downs.

I love hearing from you! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
