How was your Valentine’s Day? Did you do anything special? I almost let it slide this year. Every year I like to plan something but this year I was really not feeling energetic enough to think about it… until the day of! Serenity was my little encourager. She enjoys planning things as much as I, so she was an inspiration for me to get going. So a little planning, a little cooking and everything came together and we had a special evening. Here’s how it went. As soon as Audrey saw me preparing for our special meal, she wanted to make something, too. So she got out her ingredients to make “jelly rolls”. Instead, she ended up using sugar and cinnamon on her dough and she even…

Strawberries – Harmful or Beneficial to Your Health?
Oh, what would it be like to have fresh berries every day all summer? I think heavenly. Beautiful red strawberries are such a favorite of mine and as part of my quest to produce more of the food we consume, I have started researching them. Now, more than ever, I am really excited about the thought of growing our own. I hope you read this article to the end, (It’s not that long!) and come away with a new appreciation for the strawberry God created. Health Benefits of Eating Strawberries First let me remind you of the good things Strawberries offer. Some you may know already, but there were some facts that were new to me. Strawberries… In 1/2 cup of strawberries you will receive (based upon a 2,000…

How to Make Yogurt – My Failures & Finally My Success
With our goats producing extra milk, above what we were able to drink, I was able to try making various milk-based products like Feta Cheese, Ricotta (the simplest of all) and yogurt. Making your own yogurt can sound very simple and it really was after I found a method that actually worked. How NOT to Make Yogurt Since it’s been awhile since I had my yogurt failures I cannot tell you the exact ways I tried; I should have written this a long time ago! I do know that I tried making it in my Easiyo yogurt maker and ended up having more of a kefir than a yogurt. We used that in smoothies. Another failure was when I heated the milk to a certain temperature on…
How I Keep Large Groups of Guests & Other Tips
It may be quiet here on Treasuring the Moments but that’s because I’ve been busy this past week entertaining. I slipped in here to write this post while everyone is catching up on lost sleep over the past several days. One of the curses blessings of being a early riser is you cannot sleep-in even when your body wants to! We had special church services this weekend, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Friday night there were 27 people (including my family) staying here at the ranch. Our house is about 2700 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms. Many of them were kids and one of the great things about children and young people is you can place them anywhere. So all the boys were piled all over the…

A Breakfast Tablescape
Have you ever heard of tablescapes? I never had until the other day when I found the blog Between Naps on the Porch. Just what is a tablescape? Here’s one definition from Suite101.com. Definition of Tablescape While you may be hard pressed to locate the definition of “tablescape” in a traditional dictionary, the functional meaning of tablescape in the catering, entertaining, and decorating industries refers to all of the decorating elements that you amass on your table to create a vignette. In a practical sense, this definition does not refer to the salt and pepper shakers on the table, but rather, to the decorating aspect of the tabletop. If you visit Tablescape Thursday you’ll find a whole host of fellow bloggers who set up their…
